Horrible situation for Ava and her family. Prayers lifted:
Ava Jones, a rising high school senior from Kansas who verbally committed to Iowa's women's basketball team Sunday, was seriously injured along with her parents when they were struck by a car in Louisville on Tuesday night.
The family was there for the Run 4 the Roses girls' basketball tournament, in which Jones was playing with her club team. They were hit when the vehicle drove onto a sidewalk. The driver who struck them, Michael Hurley, was charged with four counts of first-degree assault and driving under the influence. He told police he had recently taken the drug hydrocodone.
Jones was reported to be in serious condition, and her parents, Amy and Trey Jones, in critical condition. A child reported to be Jones' younger brother was treated for minor injuries. According to Billy Watson of the Hutchinson News in Kansas, Jones' grandmother said Jones was expected to recover, although her injuries have not been made public.

Ava was released from rehab several days ago and is at home with more outpt rehab. She had a head injury, and fractures of her spine, leg, and arm with multiple surgeries.

UConn has added a 5'9 Portuguez (Azores) point guard to their 2023 roster. Inez Bettencourt.

I have an interest since I've visited the island she is from for a week about 15 years ago. Very nice in February. The people have more relatives in the US than Portugal and mosr speak english. Two very nice golf courses.

4-star No. 30 ESPN HoopGurlz Kymora Johnson has committed to Virginia for the class of 2023. She will join 4-star No. 42 Olivia McGhee as Coach Mox continues to do extremely well on recruiting business. Coach Mox is going to make Virginia relevant in the ACC and in the national level. Can't wait to see this happen.
You may remember the incident in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina - a boys team from Virginia was disqualified in South Carolina for the tournament because they had 7th grade female player on the team. Due to the rules, only boys can play, not girls on boys' team. That team was eventually invited by WNBA's New York Liberty to play at Madison Square Garden.
That 7th grader player is none other than Kymora Johnson.
Coach Mox already snagged 6'2 Breona Hurd for the Class of 2024 as well.

Stanford has room for 4 in 2023 assuming no transfers and none of the seniors staying on for a covid year. This also assumes our walk on this year will earn a scholie. If not, there will be one more spot available.
Currently verbal commits:
HG #12/PN #7 Courtney Ogden variously listed from 5'11" to 6'1" SF from Atlanta Georgia
HG #28 Chloe Clardy 5'9" combo guard from Conway, Ark
HG #40/ PN #14 Sunara Agara variously listed from 6' to 6'2" SF/PF From Hopkins, Minn
so it appears room for one more. we're hoping for a top 10 of course and/or another big post since we'll be losing Prectal and Belibi after this year.

Oregon has 2 girls committed thus far: Sofia Bell (6-2) and Sarah Rambus (6-3), both rated as 4-stars by espn. With 4 excellent freshmen coming on board this season, Oregon should continue with strong showings, in both the PAC 12 and nationally.

Not to be TOO picky, but....didn't Brit only lead Baylor to one national title?
That aside, it certainly IS a bit sad that she can't make some compassionate commentary on Brit's situation.

Yep, Egbo rectified that in her follow up tweets, she lead Baylor to two final fours.
It is sad, contrast Mulkey's response with that of Nicki Collen's.

Look at the comments in the Lexie Brown tweet. There is a link to where Kim Mulkey actually did make a comment and say she hoped for the safe return of Britney Griner.

Yes, I listened to her June 28 interview on the LSU Tiger Rag radio station. She said she hopes and prays for BG's safe return, but otherwise does not make public comments on the issue. |

There's another thread devoted to Kim Mulkey. Maybe we can discuss this topic over there instead of this thread about 2023 Commits?

Yet Lexie Brown chose to play for a coach that almost zero former players want to have contact with. She has zero credibility here. JPM was the non flamboyant Mulkey with a LOT of anger issues. Same politics.

Mmnah. Kim CAN coach. Given the evidence that Kim HAS handled Brit with the correct diplomacy, it really is time to stay in this thread's Main Lane.

Iowa commit Ava Jones not expected to play basketball again after serious injuries from July crash
Quote: |
Lisa Bluder received a call Wednesday that no coach would want to receive...
Ava Jones, the Iowa commit who survived a crash in July in Louisville, had MRI scans that shed more light on the seriousness of her injuries.
“I doubt she will ever play basketball again,” Bluder said...Her mother Amy told WDRB-TV in Louisville that Ava still hopes to eventually return to the court, though.
All four major ligaments in both of Jones’ knees are torn, Bluder said... The women’s basketball program already has committed to honoring her scholarship, regardless of whether she’s able to play basketball again. |

Highly commendable, imo - precisely how Lisa *is*. And who knows? Maybe just being at Iowa and around the program will give her incentive to rehab and heal.

in the past couple months, Washington WBB has gotten commitments from:
—#28-ranked Sayvia Sellers (5-7 PG – Anchorage, AK), UW's highest-ranked high school recruit since Kelsey Plum back in 2013
—#46-ranked Ari Long (6-0 G – Moreno Valley, CA), who committed just yesterday
—#93-ranked Chloe Briggs (5-10 G – Ontario, CA)
—#10X-ranked (still 4-star) Olivia Anderson (6-4 P – Ellensburg, WA), best in-state post player from the Class of '23
[rankings source] [commitment source]
* * *
we suffered through our third 7-win season in the past five seasons (in which we've gone 45-91 overall),
and this time it was imo largely due to a substantial talent deficit as opposed to a mix of that + bad coaching
despite that, this coaching staff has been pulling rabbits out of hats,
including getting a five-star kid to come back home,
a kid who might (can't confirm for sure but pls don't correct me if I'm wrong kthx) be our highest-ranked player in the program ever??
(@PickledGinger 🥂)
I have come to regret previously complaining about the Top-15 class the coaches cobbled together for this year
beggars, try as we might, really can't and have no right to be choosers
and after five years of total ineptitude, I actually feel like a corner is being turned
one that sometime in the next few years could be turned for good
god I hope so
I really hope we've gotten it right this time

Disappointing to see that UCLA really couldn't follow-up their top 2022 class with any top 2023 recruits, esp. bigs. But I'm sure they are in the Ju Ju Watkins sweepstakes.
Arizona has landed some of the top west coast talent incl. 2 top 10 recruits. Adia Barnes also stole one from UCLA, Jada, top 25 kid.

then you must’ve missed 6-4 post and #32 overall prospect Amanda Muse commit to UCLA back in the spring
while Muse is currently the Bruins' only 2023 commit, perhaps it’s better to have a smaller class this year so that Close & Co. can focus on developing this year’s heralded class together
Close has got it such that this UCLA wbb program can attract talent whenever they need to, which may be even more true when the school-wide move to the B1G happens
