Kennedy Burke is said to be arriving in DC next Monday in time for the Mystics trip to Dallas.
I haven't been giving thought to Kennedy Burke until the Mystics picked her up off waivers from the Seattle Storm. What's the 411 (strengths and weakness as a player)) on Kennedy Burke? Mike Thibault must think highly of Kennedy Burke to hold a roster spot for her until she returns from Spain. |
I'm no expert but this is my impression, partly from her UCLA days. Very active, good defensively, good length and athleticism, runs the floor, shooting so-so. |
I would agree with that assessment. An under-appreciated positive about Burke is that she is strong (182 lbs) and has long arms. Kennedy plays bigger than her 6-1 height. |
Who can you say Kennedy Burke reminds you of that most people have seen play in the WNBA ?

I think that is actually a different sets of fans from Singapore that flew to Seattle (or maybe all 4 came together). But if Sue got to one set, she probably got to the other.

Oops, I just recalled seeing that post on their Twitter recently and made a lazy assumption.

Per the Seattle Storm PR twitter, Russell's non-basketball injury is "a recurrent atypical headache syndrome" and we can expect to be updated on her status in 10-14 days. Sounds terrible. I hope she'll be okay.

there is something called atypical migraine, so that could be it. I don't know the difference between regular migraine and atypical, but know they are extremely unpleasant and if they are happening frequently enough to prevent her from any team stuff, it must be pretty bad. It could also result from concussion.

Any chance it's some sort of lingering effect from COVID? A sort of long COVID?

Debilitating headaches is certainly among long covid symptoms, but she is characterized having a "non basketball injury." It could certainly be a combination of an injury and also long covid. Most long covid cases are not diagnosed as such. But they are finding a very large portion of people have unexplained changes after having covid. It can affect any organ, including the brain in a large number of ways.

We could certainly use her with Russell out and no bench scoring

How is this all going down? Seems odd that Phoenix can't get anything for her. Also weird that a player of her calibre would clear waivers. |
Why would anyone want to claim her off waivers? She's clearly not interested in playing for just any old team.

Don’t do it, Seattle. Please don’t do it. You think she’s gonna be happy coming off the bench? No. So you gotta bench somebody. Won’t be Stewart. So you’re gonna bench Magbegor to make Charles happy? Or are you gonna move Stewart to three and stick Charles at four and bench Williams, because it’s not like Charles is going to get her ass back in the paint any time soon? And where’s she going to get all those shots she wanted? Won’t be from Stewart. So you’re going to exchange Loyd’s streaky shooting for Charles’s bad shooting?
On paper, Charles might make Seattle better. But Tina Charles on paper has had markedly different results from Tina Charles in real life, and I don’t think it makes sense to sacrifice development of younger players for half a season of Charles just on the off chance she might put you over the top for a ring.
And if Seattle does do this, I hope the decision-maker gets a rock in their shoe that they can’t get out.
