Not to mention Asjha Jones, Nicole Powell, Katie Smith, Maria Stepanova, and Ann Wauters. Shocked

Ann and Becky -- another Liberty reunion. Very Happy

UMMC and Dynamo are both going to be very strong as well. Even if you don't count the EuroLeague as a true 'league', it may be even more of a stretch for people to claim that the WNBA is the 'best league in the world' next year.

scroll down to rothum's post:

For a very long time the National Teams were the highest level of play for US players. So onn the women's side the tradition of it being an honor to be selected to play for a national team is still very central to players. It is why some players seek dual citizanship wo play for other countries. For example Katie Douglas applied for and was turned down for a citizanship in Lithuania.

That's good for the WNBA!

the korean season finishes well before the wnba season, so i don't know why players picking up extra cash there would impact the w at all. lj played for the korean league and *then* went to russia, where so many players returned just in time for the end of the wnba pre-season or the first game of the season.

Eurobasket also has Lindsay Bowen with a Greek team, Mask Cosmopel Kastoria, this year:

although I don't see it on the Latvian page that roofpage treats as the main source, so I don't know if it's legit.

I think Korea has a summer league though, too. IIRC, Ann Wauters and Maria Stepanova played in it...? Correct me if I'm wrong. But I remember someone telling me that Wauters left the W because she could get paid better in Korea during the summer...

i was looking at its impact in a timeline sort of way rather than a potential option for siphoning off players for good. but taken in that context, i see where you were saying it'd be good for the league. now i don't know if you'd call it a summer league or winter league given that the wnba starts in spring. hmmm.

go, indy!!!

The Liberty website has a list of offseason travels. The one that really stuck out to me was Martina Weber to Dynamo Moscow- I guess being 6'5" and German is more useful in Euroleague than it is in the WNBA.
