Sue Bird joins Storm ownership group!
SEATTLE — Force 10 Hoops, owners of the Seattle Storm, is pleased to announce that WNBA legend Sue Bird, has joined the ownership group. Sue’s illustrious playing career spanned over 20 seasons with the Storm and included four WNBA championships, 13 All-Star Game appearances, eight All-WNBA teams, and five Olympic gold medals.
“We are thrilled to welcome Sue into the ownership group after a storied career on the court,” said Seattle Storm co-owner Lisa Brummel. “Her knowledge of the game and the league, her ever-expanding business acumen, and her dedication to the Storm organization, make her a superb addition to the ownership group.”

Sue Bird is seeing the writing on the wall and wants to get in before the profits start rolling in and team valuations start soaring.

does this mean she'll stop showing up to Liberty games and entirely too many people care more about her than about players on the actual team on court? 'cause that would be greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

Probably depends where she is living in the summer.

I had a similar thought from the Seattle end. I mean, it's great that she's joining the ownership group, but it could be distracting if she's courtside all the time.

So if I am reading the cap sheet and roster breakdown article correctly
If you slot K. Williams into J. Melbourne spot you can keep any remaining two of Holmes, Vivians or Muhl but
If you slot Muhl into J. Melbornes spot you can't keep both of Vivians and Holmes without going over the cap so you have to keep Williams and only one of Vivians or Melbrone
in short if you keep Muhl you also have to keep K. Williams and cut one of Holmes or Vivians and if you want to keep both Holmes and Vivians you have to cut Muhl.

Correct. The theory might be to release one of Holmes or Vivians, then re-sign them later when their pro-rated salary fits in exchange for Williams. That was going to be a very short wait when I thought they'd keep Melbourne and probably replace Fankam Mendjiadeu. If we now assume they'd want to keep DFM and replace Williams with the vet, it'll be longer.
They could also risk releasing Muhl, intending to re-sign her on the minimum instead of her current second-round rookie-scale contract. But there may be more risk there of someone claiming her off waivers. |

Joyner Holmes is the final cut, so it looks like Seattle is opening the season with:
SDS/Muhl/Williams
Loyd/Whitcomb
Horston/Vivians
Ogwumike/F.Mendjiadeu
Magbegor/Russell

Is Holmes so good that you wouldn’t grab Billings at vet minimum, or maybe even at her waiver price if it can be afforded?
The PF seems like a weakness in teams like Seattle and Phoenix, but in overabundance in teams like Los Angeles.
