The trade for Tuck looks weirder and weirder to me then. If she is an injury depth player at best, is it really worth trading down 4 spots to get her? If she doesn't make the team, you've given up 4 draft spots for essentially nothing.
With Bird and Stewie back, KML is going to fall down in the rotation and lose minutes. I hope the team realizes what a stud Clark is. You don't take her off the floor. And we don't really have any minutes available for whatever rookie we get at 7 or 11 anyway.

Megdal reporting Stewie has indeed agreed to a new contract, two years at $185k: https://twitter.com/howardmegdal/status/1228023206293970944
(This is the most she can make, since she's not eligible for the supermax because she hasn't accrued enough service years; by the time her new contract's up, she'll be eligible for it.)

Why don’t these fifth year signees sign a one year deal, and then they can get supermax next year. I haven’t seen anybody do it yet, so I wonder if there’s a clause against it.

Stewart only has three years of WNBA experience, not having played last season. This new deal (not an extension) gets her to the 5yr threshold for the supermax. |

She was ambassador and got paid, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it counted towards her years of experience.
Even if it didn’t count, we have the example of JJones signing with CON for two years with that second year at a discount instead of just one year.
Chelsea Gray has the best (or maybe luckiest) agent of all. She should be at the $215K mark her first year into this new CBA.

It's not like they already had the most stupidly overstocked roster or anything. |

Why do you say that? All they have is: Faulkner, J. Jones, Vanderquig, Vadeeva, Torrens, Meesseman, Griner and a number of other players I don't know, but who are probably good too......
And now Stewart.

Like I always say - nothing good happens when your star player goes to Russia.....the don't get better - they get injured, burned out (see Prince or maybe Angel), bought off (Taurais, maybe Angel), or just stay there (Nolan).......

When was the last time a former lottery pick was traded for almost nothing?

Not a trade but the Dream picked up No. 2 Coates after she cleared waivers.

Very interesting. I'm feeling lukewarm about this, at first reaction. If she was cheap and non-guaranteed though, I'll take it. I've thought she still has something left in the tank, at least...

Shaqator wasn’t traded either, and she wasn’t even picked up by the “expert” who claimed she was well worth the #3 pick.

My math says the Storm aren’t done dealing, unless maybe Bird is agreeing to take less than $215K, or some player is getting suspended, or they’re not that interested in adding any draft picks to the team.

Would love for them to announce a re-signing of Bird. Maybe they're waiting for the right moment to announce it, as it could be the last contract she signs. It's very possible that this ends up being our final roster:
PG: Bird/Canada
SG: Loyd/Whitcomb/Prince
SF: Clark/Tuck
PF: Howard/Langhorne
C: Stewart/Russell
That's 11; and if Magbegor at some point comes over, that's 12. If even the 11 of them are over the cap, though, I'd be more than happy to see what else gets done (so long as Bird comes back. I don't want her to Augustus us).
I still want to see our first-round pick make the team. Otherwise, we're better off just finding yet another home for it.

By my maths, if they give Bird 215k, they'd have 175,700 left for either one or two players (before Prince). So as long as the deal for Prince wasn't too ridiculous, there should be room for a 12th. |

The Prince signing is a bit odd, but I'd assume she got only the vet minimum. Maybe Bird is signing for slightly less than the max? Does seem like they'll play Tuck at SF now or Stewart at SF in spurts.

If we're to believe anything in the article that Craigmont posted here a couple weeks ago, Tuck will be used more so as a SF. It would make sense since KML is now gone and it appears (for now) that Langhorne's sticking around.
