So this is something that probably resulted from those CBA negotiations.

Makes sense. Well done the League for making the decision. Ideally you wouldn't have three days between the first and second round, then only one day off before the semis, but once that was the set schedule and we ended up with such a glaring East/West split it was a good idea to do something about it.

Might be the first thing that's happened under Engelbert that we can say might well not have happened under previous regimes.

A good move, all around. Also a good sign, that the league is willing/has the resources to spend a fair amount of money.

Seems kind of one sided though. Helps the W teams, but would they do that for an east team were the situation reversed? Also - isn't part of the home court advantage the teams fought all season to win, was travel woes of the visiting teams?

Of course the WNBA would do something that benefits the Sparks (assuming they win, of course). Very Happy

You could easily insert Storm into that sentence and it would be just as valid. Or Aces. Only one that might not fit is Sky.

That wouldn't fit the narrative though. And the Sky aren't going to fly directly to DC/CT from Las Vegas if they win?

Why not? Seems like they would rather do that than fly home first. I'm just saying that the WNBA has never seemed all that Sky friendly compared to other teams.

There aren't any direct flights from Vegas to Hartford. They'd have to stop in Tampa or Charlotte or Cincinnati or Chicago or Detroit or Atlanta or Fort Lauderdale or Los Angeles or Philadelphia or Washington or some combination of them. If they wait until tomorrow there's one that stops in Seattle and Minneapolis, one that stops in San Diego, one that stops in Denver, one that stops in Houston, and one that stops in Portland.

There is a direct flight from Vegas to Providence at 9:35 tonight, but I wouldn't ask players to fly Sun Country Airlines and their high density seating. Otherwise, flying there gives you mostly the same stopovers, although you can stop in San Francisco, Raleigh-Durham, or Newark if you go that way.

Fly to Logan and spend an extra hour on the bus?

I'm sure that's what they would have done, but it's also less than ideal

Sun were 15-2 at home. There have been complaints over the years about the difficulty of traveling play against the Sun. Seems like the league has negated one of the Sun's biggest advantages over opposing teams. Doesn't bode well for the Sun.

A charter could land at Groton, a mere 12 minute drive from Mohegan

Why would your default be to assume that they wouldn't?

I just made a post a few days ago in the storm/Lynx thread stating LA would lose if they had to play in CONN two days after playing the storm. This is a step in the right direction. No one wants to see what happened to the Sparks last season in DC occur in the playoffs again I’m sure.

I'm sure there are some that wouldn't mind.

I wonder if they'll do the same for Game 5s in the semis, which also have a quick turnaround going west-east

I doubt it. I think a central concern here is that the travelling teams would've been at a significant disadvantage. In that situation everyone would be making the same journey, so even if it's not enjoyable, it's fair.

Of course, we might not get to find out either way.

Of course they would, it is obvious.
