Mexico qualified for their first Olympics by defeating Canada today. The "America's" tournament has two qualifiers so Canada can still advance with a win tomorrow. Japan(host), USA(World Champs), Italy(Europe winner) & Mexico have qualified. One more from the America's qualifies and one qualifier from Asia/Oceania qualifies.

Canada defeated Brazil today to qualify for the Olympics. The last Olympic spot will be determined during the Asia/Oceania qualifiers in late September.

I'm finding it odd that softball is back in the 2020 Olympics but aren't expected to be included in the 2024 games in Paris but will be included in the 2028 games in Los Angeles. Very bizarre.

The sports are likely to be dropped for 2024 in Paris but could return four years later in Los Angeles. |

For anyone who follows softball, but doesn't necessarily follow all the top players after they leave college--especially if they don't play for team USA or in the US professional leagues--this is a story you may have missed.
https://www.espn.com/espnw/sports/story/_/id/24365587/sara-groenewegen-medically-induced-coma-kept-softball-world-championships
Since this story published she has now made her way back onto the national team and with Canada, was instrumental in the team making the Olympic field for Tokyo 2020, and was named the top pitcher at this last year's Canada Cup (not bad for not even being able to walk a year ago).
She is one of my all time favorite players, and tbh will have me actually cheering for team Canada over team USA in Tokyo.
