Jimmy Dore is a comedian but he's taken to commenting on politics and is unburdened by being a part of the corporate media, so can comment critically on the corporate/donor-class Democrats. Glenn Greenwald is a journalist, but not for the corporate media so can regularly speak truth to power.
26:15 is the start of direct AOC talk, but it is part of what was said earlier, at least by 23:40.

AOC is just the latest reboot of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington....all that was old is new again....or never really changed to begin with, but we *think* it's new. It's just NOW, but not so new.
That said, AOC totally rocks, imo. She HAS brought a new dimension to Congress, and is the face of (potential!) change. Contrary to what was said in the video, she DID oppose the idea of re-instating Nancy Pelosi. But like any politician, she understands the importance of the team concept that is necessary to get anything done in Congress. That's not a weakness on her part, but demonstrative of a flaw in our system: Might/Numbers/Power makes things happen, good or bad.
And she's not the first; Bernie and Elizabeth don't have the patina of youth and sass AOC brings to the game, but their ideas are every bit as Big n' Bold as hers.

Greenwald said she opposed the idea of Pelosi continuing as Speaker:
Quote: |
I asked her if she won if she would support Pelosi and Hoyer for leadership. She said "Absolutely not, they've been there too long we need new leadership. I won't vote for them." She f'ing wins, what does she do? She gets to Congress, the first thing she does is she votes for Pelosi and Hoyer. ... She now calls Pelosi Mama Bear. |
You may be saying that he didn't mention that AOC put up some resistance to Pelosi being re-elected in the period between when she won and before she was in Congress, which she did for 16 days.
Pelosi later agreed (at age seventy eight) to limit her leadership to another 4 years in order to get 7 Democrats to vote for her. 15 Democrats did not vote for Pelosi and 4 refused to reveal how they voted.
I take your point that AOC and others of similar ideology need to go along with the corporate Democrats in many cases as they are the minority in power, but it will be interesting to see if they get upset with the Biden administration if they govern more in line with how DNC guests Meg Whitman and John Kasish expect and want than what AOC and Sanders expect and want. I think that the latter two will be ones that will be disappointed.

Which was a dumb idea. Pelosi is someone the Democrats need in a leadership position. Heck, she might be the only reason we still have a Democracy.
BTW - this whole "who should be speaker" vote demonstrates how effective she is. Both the moderates and progressives opposed her...think about that. But Pelosi knows it's about the base. AOC has a lot of the brogressive base at the moment, and she gets credit for opposing Pelosi - as do the moderates. So they work it out. Pelosi protects her caucus. Note the people who didn't vote for her were the moderates - because they are the ones whose seats are at risk.
AOC understands inter-sectionalism in a way that Bernie and Liz never could. I don't always agree with her, but I respect her. And under the right guidance she could be really effective.

It would be news if she gave a fiery speech denouncing Biden for his rushing of tens of billions of dollars in bombs to Israel so they could destroy Gaza.

They used Ocasio-Cortez at the convention as the "left" politician to quell any dissent on the Biden-Harris administration's fueling of the Israeli war crimes and ethnic cleansing. What was in her teleprompter?
Joe Biden is still the president and was running for a 2nd term through most of the Israeli activity since October 7, 2023. Not Kamala Harris. We haven't been told that Kamala Harris has taken any roll in trying to get Israel to do anything. At best we are told that Blinken is working to do something. But it is all for show. If the USA wanted the bombing to stop, we'd stop sending bombs. If the USA wanted the snipers to stop shooting civilians and journalists and doctors and aid workers (dying at 3 times the highest rate see in any conflict), we'd stop sending billions to Israel every year.
As Caitlin Johnstone says, the Democratic Party exists to ensure good people will do nothing. The Republicans don't care how many Palestinians are killed or if they end up with none of their land. Israel can do as many "pogroms" as they want in the West Bank, Republicans won't bat an eyelash. It is up to Democrats to care. And some small minority (even smaller in terms of Congress - but that is certainly magnified by AIPAC having a lot of of money to give to them or use to defeat them by spending millions on an opponent) of them do. But they are lied to by their party to stop their dissent. Joe Biden lied - in a debate - about not sending 2,000 pound bombs to Israel because they were too destructive. Ocasio-Cortez lies that Kamala Harris is working "tirelessly" to get Israel to stop it.
