So the next ballot is due tomorrow. This is what I did in the fall, with 30. Now it's down to 25.

Lindsay Allen, Notre Dame
Kristine Anigwe, Cal
Ariel Atkins, Texas
Monique Billings, UCLA
Sophie Cunningham, Missouri
Jordin Canada, UCLA
Alaina Coates, South Carolina
Nia Coffey, Northwestern
Nina Davis, Baylor
Diamond DeShields, Tennessee

Makayla Epps, Kentucky
Katelynn Flaherty, Michigan
Myisha Hines-Allen, Louisville
Jessica January, DePaul
Alexis Jones, Baylor
Erica McCall, Stanford
Kelsey Mitchell, Ohio State
Mariya Moore, Louisville
Adrienne Motley, Miami

Kia Nurse, UConn
Kelsey Plum, Washington
Katie Lou Samuelson, UConn
Jessica Shepard, Nebraska
Shakayla Thomas, Florida State
Brianna Turner, Notre Dame
Victoria Vivians, Mississippi State
Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, Maryland
Sydney Wiese, Oregon State
A'ja Wilson, South Carolina

I added Alexis Jones, who I inexplicably left out the first time.

And injured is

Macy Miller, South Dakota State

I'd drop DeShields, Cunningham, Atkins, Moore, Shepard, Nurse and either Motley or January, and add Gabby Williams and Napheesa Collier

Are you saying you have a vote in the Wooden, and you forgot about Alexis Jones? Is there any way we can get you impeached? Smile

It's not like she has a chance to win, but to completely forget about her?

Were you voting back in 2012 when at least one of these awards neglected to add Sammy Prahalis to the preseason watch list, but she eventually ended up as a finalist? That doesn't happen too often.

That's right, I'm the original but not the obsessed Sammy fan.

I would switch Williams with McCall and I am a Card Laughing but the rest look about right. Oh except I think Davidson is better than Anigwe so I would drop her. Nurse deserves to be on there, the 3 most important players on Uconn are obviously KLS but then it would be Williams and Nurse.

I'd make one other change. I'd drop both Motley and January and add Brionna Jones. Actually this would be the first "Jones" that I would add.

Oh wowsers. I think that deserves an applause! Years of trying to even get you to mention a SDSU and years of telling everyone about Macy and now that she's out for the season, NOW she gets mentioned? It's like on that Golden Girls episode where Blanche and Sophia fight over a guy but he ends up dying and Blanche says she can have him and Sophia goes, "she's giving him to me. The man is dead, but she's giving him to me!" Wink Okay, continue.

Brionna Jones! So far she's been more integral to Maryland's success than Walker-Kimbrough (who has also been great). Just got her second Big Ten player of the week award this season... more than Mitchell I think (not that this is a hugely significant measure... just sayin').

IMO these could easily go off the list:

Ariel Atkins, Texas
Sophie Cunningham, Missouri
Nina Davis, Baylor
Diamond DeShields, Tennessee
Jessica January, DePaul
Mariya Moore, Louisville
Adrienne Motley, Miami
Jessica Shepard, Nebraska
Shakayla Thomas, Florida State

possibly:
Kia Nurse, UConn
Makayla Epps, Kentucky
Monique Billings, UCLA
Katelynn Flaherty, Michigan
Myisha Hines-Allen, Louisville
Erica McCall, Stanford

That doesn't leave much does it?

Agree, Art. My depth of knowledge is such that that it is difficult to contruct a 25 player list myself, but if there are 25 players better than her then wow and God bless the women's game for being so deep and talented because that young woman got the goods!

There's not an easy way to be completely objective here: some of these kids are riding on last year's glamor. Example: This year, Nina Davis is not leading her team, nor her conference as she has in the past. Is she still deserving of this elite recognition?

And some kids are being completely overlooked, but are having stellar seasons: I'd pick a Sophie Brunner or an Alexis Peterson over a Shakala Thomas or a Sophie Cunningham right about now.

I agree with Howie, Bruner has owned McCall and Anigwe. Cannot remember who posted so will just answer in general. Davidson has shown that she is much more of a versatile player than Anigwe or anyone on the Cal team. Anigwe got press for being a freshman and some stat padding this year from easy cupcake games but when it came down to the PAC she has failed miserably, which is what happens when you have to play against teams who can actually scout. Davidson has been the player who has been able to handle the PAC pressure and also made her teammates better. Anigwe does not make her teammates better and she still fouls like a newbie not understanding movement without the ball both offensively and defensively. Hey McCall still doesn't understand defensive positioning or how to make her teammates better so it doesn't surprise me.

My top 5 to date

Mitchell even though don't necessarily love the way she plays not a lot at this position
Jones better 2 guard than a 1 best player on Baylor.
KLS nobody else as skilled or unique
Wilson tough as I don't think she is playing as hard this year and this one could fluctuate
Billings plays her ass off and getting better but will depend on how Jones does through remainder of year.

Mariya Moore, Louisville has been one of there best players since she been at Louisville, no way is not one of the top 25 players in college basketball right now.

So what part of her game most impresses you this year? That she's third on the team in scoring at 11 ppg, that she's leading the team in turnovers, or that she's shooting 39%? Have you watched Louisville play this season? She's generally not playing like one of the top 25 players.

That's the issue with several players on the list; they're not playing up to ther past reputations. They all deserved to be on the initial list, but some don't deserve to be on the January list.

Now, while the ^^above^^ is certainly respectable-or-better , I'm curious if there's any solid reason you (or any voters) might not have added someone like Alexis Peterson or Sophie Brunner. Just not enough slots, or is there something about them that might make them lesser than those listed?

As I'm looking at the list, I'm thinking it might be harder to decide on 25 than if you just had to pick 5.

Wait -- Clay you mean you weren't persuaded by the compelling, sample-size of 1 game argument for Cal's Davidson over Anigwe??...

Sorry sir, but we're going to have to revoke your credentials. Wink

Never mind that.... revoke them for not adding the heart and soul of the #1 team

Sophie Brunner's a good player, and she has a good shooting percentage, but she has more turnovers than assists and averages 12.6 ppg in 26.1 minutes. If she played more minutes (as she would at most places, most likely), her average still wouldn't be exceptional.

I looked at her closely, but the A/TO was the big reason I left her off.

And Davidson is averaging almost nine points a game, so she has to be in the mix with Anigwe (23.4). It was a close call ...

I know I'm a total UCONN homer, but I'm very confused as to how this list can be submitted without Gabby Williams. Based off the the non-conference part of the season, I think Gabby might be National POY so far. In the two toughest tests of the season(ND and Maryland)...she was sensational, offenisvely and defensively.

Asia Durr isn't the best player on Louisville?

I'd also put Gabby Williams on over Kia Nurse if it came to them, but I think there are others that can be removed too
