And how much of Dave and Doris's discussion will be about UConn, and how much will be about Tennessee, Notre Dame, the ACC and the SEC combined? I figure about 75% UConn.

Omg i find this to be so annoying to hear about UCONN the majority of the broadcast with Doris and THERE NOT EVEN PLAYING , its like give these schools credit for at least trying to be great

Gotta keep the nation updated on what's good. Not everybody lives on the message boards. I suspect you may hear even more about Plum, who isn't playing in this game.

How about we give the benefit of the doubt until the game is actually on the air?

I suspect we'll hear a lot of Pat Summitt talk, as it is We Back Pat game.

Exactly.

One way for a network to stimulate new audience or casual audience interest in watching future games is to market what they perceive to be interesting aspects of the sport in general during any individual game.

A common example of this is announcing the progress of other games, or showing clips of them, during the televised game.

I recall during the 1961 baseball season how, no matter what game you were watching, the announcers would keep the audience abreast of the M&M Boys' (Maris and Mantle) race to beat Ruth's record of 60 home runs. The same thing happened 37 years later when McGwire and Sosa were chasing Maris.

Totally different scenarios. Maris and Mantle were battling to break what at the time was considered one of sports pantheons' greatest records. It was a moment in history that those who follow the sport of baseball wouldn't want to miss. At the time, MLB baseball was far away the nation's most favorite sport....

What ESPN is doing with its incessant bludgeoning of everything UConn into the collective national consciousness - whether or not the nation wishes them to - has nothing to do with that. Its an actual disservice to women's collegiate basketball, and women's collegiate sports altogether: to focus on one single team within a national sport as if it's the only team worth following. That's nowhere near true. Plus with the national attention these days on sports, sports-dedicated media, and sports social media all over the place, no one needs to "keep the nation updated" by plastering it all over other teams' opportunities to showcase it's programs. Back during the Maris-Mantle HR derby, people typically got their only sports updates by listening to the radio, and that's it....

The day will come when Luigi moves on and UConn women's BB falls to the wayside, just like the UConn men's BB team now has post-Calhoun, but will the nation's young women know much about all the other WCBB programs out there that are still having success? Not if ESPN and Burke have anything to do with it.....

First shot of the game DeShields is on the break and settles for a contested mid range jumper. Think she settles for this shot way too often.

11-2 Tennessee to start, did not see this coming but great start and it gets the crowd involved early which is a good thing.

Russell plays such a passive post game defensively....she seems to prefer to stand by and watch the opposing post player make her shot, and then put effort into going after the rebound. But she hardly tries to present a presence at the player to impede her attempt. It's baffling, as if she's afraid that if she tangles and bangs with the other players, she'll roll and ankle or get injured somehow....

The biggest problem with the LV's is that they play like champs for 5 minutes and then take the next 5 minutes off.

perfect example.

Tenn leads 11-2 after 3 minutes and then in the next 6 are outscored 23-7.

This game is too fast for Tennessee, if they are going to win I think it has to be in the high 60s-low 70s, if it gets up to the 80s or 90s I don't know if Tennessee can score at that pace to keep up with ND. Right now Notre Dame on pace for 100.

That 11-2 run was followed by a 23-5 run the other way.

Well they made it to the last minute of the first quarter before talking about UConn. That must be a new record for Doris.

Some good for Tennessee. Shooting 50%, 7 assists on 8 baskets, 0 turnovers. ND is outrebounding Tennessee, if Tenn is going to have a chance, Russell, Nared, and DeShields need to grab a lot of boards.

When Russell gets the ball in deep (which is where she should be all the time on offense) she is very effective and very hard to stop.

But she won't stay there. She floats all over the place. And when she gets the ball ten feet from the basket, she's useless.

DB: Russell is "a force".

After 25 years of basketball players wearing clown pantaloons, are we now seeing a de-bloomerization of shorts? ND's are about 3" above the knee.

Evidently they aren't calling offensive fouls this game.

Which is fine as long as they do it consistently.

DD lets Young blow right by her from the wing and gets a touch foul. Are the WNBA scouts watching?

DD cannot/will not/does not play man-to-man defense. She relies mostly on her jumping ability to block shots from behind.

Middleton, OTOH, makes the effort but is just too slow to keep up with Allen or any moderately quick guard.

Middleton has been basically a disaster out there
