Looking at the standings for the SEC — Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Alabama are tied for first with undefeated records. Tennessee is last in Georgia is next to the last.

Not too many years ago, if you saw that list you would automatically assume they had it exactly upside down.

I think you meant the "overall" standings. Everybody's tied in the conference standings.

The thing that pops out at me the most is Clemson at 8-0 in the ACC. Aren't they perennial cellar dwellers? Their best wins are a 11 pt one against Louisiana Tech and an 8 pt one against Maine. At least they're winning the games they're supposed to.

Duke has already played 10 games.

Clemson is undefeated but according to Sagarin they are the 122nd best team in the country. The strength of schedule is 312 so they built a nice record on cupcakes. Massey rates them higher, but still at 85th, so when they play someone, they will probably return to the cellar.

This too shall pass. State is good. However, Arky and bama haven't played anyone that is a real challenge.

Mississippi's SOS is right down there with Arkansas and Alabama: they have the 314th-ranked SOS, and are 7-2 with their two losses on the road against their toughest RPI opponents to date in UNLV and WVU (which is currently undefeated at 10-0).

But tonight Ole Miss hosted 25th-ranked Oregon (8-1, #33 RPI, #103 SOS), and beat them decisively 83-67. The Rebels jumped on the Ducks 49-35 in the 1st half, and Oregon was never able to recover from there...

Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Alabama definitely have lead-weight SOSs for the conference, but while the SEC is 2nd currently in conference RPI behind only the PAC-12, they have the #1-ranked SOS while the PAC-12's SOS is ranked 6th. The SEC currently have 6 member teams with top-20 ranked SOSs.

That's one shy of half the entire conference. And that most likely won't drop a whole lot when conference play begins. The PAC-12 has only one (Wash. St. at #8 ). The ACC (3rd-ranked RPI, 6th-ranked SOS) has two teams with top-20 ranked SOS (ND at #2 and FSU at #19)....

Posting this here as well as in the Pac-12 thread:

Note that Oregon freshman Sabrina Ionescu only played seven minutes in the loss to Ole Miss. She has a bad thumb, and obviously couldn't go…

Since the career record for triple doubles is seven, and she has two in her first nine games, obviously her loss is pretty important.

Late in the game she came down on someone's foot and injured her ankle. Taken directly to the locker room. She appeared in a lot of pain, putting no weight on it at all.

SC was up by 20 with only a few minutes left. I hope that personnel decision doesn't come back to bite them.
