Comparing the careers of Plum and Stiles I found out that Plum has played in 134 games compared to only 99 for Stiles.

I'm seeing 129 games for Stiles:

I was using the NCAA stat site: http://web1.ncaa.org/stats/StatsSrv/careerplayer

Aside from racking up the numbers in fewer games than Plum, why does Stiles college career span only 3 years? Did she leave early (graduate early)? If you want to go with asterisks, lets not forget that Pistol Pete didn't have the 3-point rule.

Because that site does not show her freshman seasons for reasons I cannot explain. The three-year stats show Stiles with a total of 2,775 points rather than her actual total of 3,393.

NCAA.com's comparison of Plum vs. Stiles shows she scored the remaining 618 points as a freshman in 30 games, bringing her total to ... 129 games:

The one flaw in the ncaa.org widget is that it's incomplete before 1999.

what an awesome performance. to throw out a game like that under what was probably tremendous pressure (especially when Chantel fouled out with 8 minutes left in the game & Utah down by only 6 or 8, I think). Romeo wasn't scoring, so it was up to Kelsey to carry the team and she did it, again.

if there's any doubt about who's the #1 pick, I don't know what else she'd have to do.

CONGRATS KELSEY!

YES! Congrats to Kelsey on doing what her team needed her to do to get the victory.

Also, great interview on ESPN2. She took that interview straight into the game, with the fact that Chantel Osahor had fouled out, the small lead her team held and that the team was looking to her. The whole team was calling her number and she came through.

Any team lucky enough to select her is getting a great team player. I expect she will not be leading scorer on her team but will be looking to set up the veterans. Unless the team calls her number. If they do, she'll deliver.

Very impressive young woman!

I don't even know what to say. I was so sure she would get the record on Friday at the Pac-12s. I didn't see this coming at all. Chantel gets fouled out on a bad call in a close game, and all of a sudden I'm thinking, "There's no way we're losing to Utah on Senior Day, is there??"

Just a performance for the ages. She is such an incredible competitor. Those and-1s are simply unguardable. There aren't enough superlatives to describe what I witnessed yesterday. Maybe the most appropriate way to describe yesterday is #PlumBelievable. Laughing

So classy from Jackie Stiles and Missouri State. It's cool to see the shoutouts from the likes of Steve Kerr and Kobe Bryant, but I really love the support from Coach Gottlieb and Kristine Anigwe.

Kelsey's been under the weather and she woke up yesterday without a voice--now she's going to have to give interviews for days. lol

Very memorable Senior Day (to say the least), as we honored four remarkable student-athletes. The four of them have worked so hard to get to where they're at, overcome so much. Collier and Corral may not have the numbers and the records to show for the work they've put in, but they will also go down as two of the most beloved Huskies in the history of the program. But before they go down in history, there's still a lot of basketball left to be played.

No kidding! When she notched "only" 25 the game prior, I thought well, we will have to wait a couple more games. I can't believe she hung 57 on Utah.

I'm honored that a Husky broke the record on my birthday. She nearly scored my age. Cool

Code:

1   219.0   237.0
2   109.5   118.5
3    73.0    79.0
4    54.8    59.3
5    43.8    47.4
6    36.5    39.5

Not getting at least one more game in Seattle really hurts the chances of the big numbers, although I am not counting her out until she's done.

Assuming Washington's SID is not making up numbers, there are a few other records to track for the NCAA tournament. 18 more free throws will break the career record and 50 more points will get her past Jackie Stiles's single season mark.

There's another record to shoot for: Most points in a season.

Quote:
Plum became just the third player in NCAA women's basketball history to score at least 1,000 points in a single season.

Jackie Stiles scored 1,062 points for Southwest Missouri State in 2001-02 and Odyssey Sims scored 1,054 points for Baylor in 2013-14. Add Plum's 1,013 points (and counting...) to the list. She needs 42 points in the upcoming NCAA Tournament to pass Sims for the second-best scoring performance in a single season, and could have the most prolific scoring season in women's NCAA history with 50 points in the tournament.

I missed doing this after these couple weeks off. I will hiatus the big number targets for now.

21 from the single season points record as she is now at 1042 for the season and 3460 for her career and 10 from the career free throw record after having 8 today.

Not Plum's best game by a mile, but well, she's still Kelsey Plum.

38 gives us a new single season record of 1080 and pushes her up to 3498 for her career. So she just has to do that 4 more times to beat Woodard. Another 8 free throws leaves her 2 short of the career record.

If Plum does reach #1, wouldn't it something if Kelsey Mitchell decided to stay her senior year and reached #1 the very next year?

Mitchell is at 2189 career points right now with about 50 games remaining and she has averaged 25.2 ppg career. If she maintains that average that would put her a touch over 3400 pts. The record has stood for 15 years, and now it could be broken in successive years.

I said this in early January because I thought teams would contain Plum, but it wasn't really done. It now doesn't seem too realistic for Mitchell to reach the #1 spot.

Is awhom going to do an analysis? Would Mitchell need something like 28 ppg to reach Plum?

Plum also sets the new career free throw record.

Mitchell will get a thread and a poll before the season if she stays. Assuming Ohio State's notes are accurate, Mitchell finished the season at 2,553.

It's important to talk about now, because there are draft implications.
I don't know if it's my fault, but I keep hearing the sales pitch at other sites that Mitchell could break the scoring record if she returns. If the figures are correct, Mitchell would need 975 pts next season to do it. I don't see that as very realistic unless Mitchell is given a Plum-like green light to do whatever she wants. That's pretty rare for any player, and I'm not exactly expecting such a green light from McGuff.

Breaking 975 pts down by # of games
30 gms - 32.50 ppg
31 gms - 31.45 ppg
32 gms - 30.46 ppg
33 gms - 29.55 ppg
34 gms - 28.68 ppg
35 gms - 27.86 ppg
36 gms - 27.08 ppg
37 gms - 26.35 ppg
38 gms - 25.66 ppg

Mitchell's best year, she had 26.1 ppg over 34 games for 889 pts
