I'm confused about the AP rankings beyond the top 25. Is there a list of the teas that are ranked 26-100 for example?

It only ranks back as far as teams getting votes. For instance in Week 9, 40 teams got votes. Georgia Tech got one vote placing them at #25. Nobody else gave Tech any love, so they ended up being the #40 team.

I noticed that Duke made it back into the top 25 in week 5. They were ranked 21 and the column that shows the trending indicated that they had moved up 5 spots, so does that mean they were previously ranked at 26?

Yes.

I'm also curious about what Tennessee has to do before they break they break back into the top 25. they have beat some pretty good teams and I think they were dropped a little too far a little too fast previously.

Tennessee is at #26 right now.

Colorado and Syracuse drop off the Top 25 (oh, the ACC woes continue)

What "woes" might those be?
Three of the top ten, six of the top eighteen?
What other conference can match that?

NCSU has just taken down the top team in the ACC in two successive games. They should be bolting into Top 25 next week.

They certainly should be.

And their home-and-homes are against UNC and Wake. They won't play ND or FSU again except in the ACC tourney. Heck of a great start to their ACC season.

A poll is only a collection of opinions, after all. Wink

Week 14:

Michigan debuts at #21!

http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball-women/d1

Forgive my excitement. I'm sure there was other important movement this week, but I haven't seen my team in the top 25 since 2013!

I'm trying hard to figure out why in the world ASU is ranked ahead of Tennessee.

Both have eight losses.

Tenn beat Stanford; ASU lost not once but twice to Stanford.

Tenn beat SCar and Notre Dame; ASu has no wins even remotely equivalent to either of those. (Both teams beat Kentucky.)

Tenn's RPI is 14, SOS is 3; ASU's RPI is 24, SOS is 10.

So why is ASU higher ranked?

Oh, and why is USF with no good wins and a loss to 11-12, RPI 168 Memphis ranked ahead of both?

Congrats....good stuff. They've been playing well lately.

So, I'm looking in that 'neighborhood' of the rankings, and see that Michigan and Syracuse both win 2 games in the last week vs. mediocre teams, and they MOVE UP 4 AND 5 PLACES! Oklahoma and DePaul also win 2 games vs. mediocre teams and....they BOTH MOVE DOWN A PLACE?? Laughing LOL!! Laughing

Because the AP ranking is stupid and dumb! Seriously, every second spent analyzing the AP ranking is a second that has been objectively wasted. And those seconds don't come back! They add up and then you get older then eventually you're laying in your death bed and saying "oh f-ck, I spent literally any time at all arguing about AP rankings!" And then you die.

Don't let it happen to you!!!!!!!!

Well, yeah, but they also beat the #4 team this week, while ASU has lost four out of its last five (including to a 12-11 team) and they're still ranked.

I am not suggesting that Arizona State should be ranked.

Generally a team only moves up if team(s) ahead of them lose. That's what has been happening a lot, especially with teams from 15-25. And once you reach a level you only slowly slide down. A perfect example last year was Georgia two seasons back. They opened the season at #24 and were 12-0 by Christmas, playing a pile of mediocrity, but because they didn't lose and teams ahead of them did, they rose to #14. Then despite going 5-6 once they started playing some decent teams, in mid February they were still ranked #24.

One more point. If Georgia had gone 12-0 against the exact same opponents but was in,say, the Colonial Conference, their fans would have been complaining at Christmas about how they weren't ranked with a 12-0 record.

Tennessee and Arizona State are out. Drake is in for the first time in 16 years. Texas A&M is back in.

Tennessee shouldn't have been back in to begin with. Great for Drake and Texas A&M though.

It will be interesting if the NCAA still thinks that Maryland is still the 8th best team. They say that the RPI and SOS are 2 of various ratings/factors they look at but in practice they never seem to mention anything but those 2 numbers.

Isn't putting them 8th making use of other ratings/factors? Their RPI is in the teens and their SOS is almost 100 so if it was straight RPI they'd be like a 4-5 seed.

I am hoping for Maryland to get put in MSSt's region.

Maryland might be the only #2 ranked team ever whose main claim to the ranking is a loss!! (And I'm a MD fan)

That may be the best scenario. I have no idea how to seed a team like Maryland or on the opposite spectrum, Tennessee. Maryland is better than the seed they deserve but I don't think they deserve a 1-2 seed based on the factors the committee considers, it sets a bad precedent. Give them a 3 or 4 seed which may seem too low but pair them with the worst one seed to even it out. The worst one seed should have a tougher road anyways so I think that's relatively fair.
