Women's Basketball Fantasy League 2016-2017

Come one, and come all! Tis the season to dethrone the three-time defending Champion, the Miracles coached by Myrtle! I realize that this thread is probably a little bit early, but I'm ready to start talking smack about this season and to parade my mid-majors around. The stalwarts from yesterday are gone, as the Kelsey Minato's, the Breanna Stewarts, and the Kayleigh Valley's of the world are no longer playing this season. So, who will be left to fill the void? Kelsey Mitchell is certainly still sticking around for tOSU--but will she be the first selection in the Fantasy Draft? I'm expecting a few upstarts to help threaten Myrtle's dominance. I think that it's best to start this a bit early, as the election season will be winding down right around the beginning of our beloved sport, and we can discuss timing of the draft moving forward. In the past few seasons, we have done a rolling draft over the course of a few days to help reduce the stress of drafting in the span of a few hours. Myrtle, I hope that you don't mind that I stole your thunder, and posted this early. Wink

Current Rules

-each roster 13 players with a daily lineup limit of eight players structured like this: 3G, 2F, 1C, and 2U (U's can be any position)
- a player's position shall be whatever is listed on the team's website and/or whatever's listed on rivals.com(yahoo) or whatever is listed on wbbstate. If they conflict, then that player can be used as either one. If a team website uses the designations Post or Wing, they shall be construed as follows: P = F/C and W = G/F.
-we have 2 IR spots which can only be used AFTER a player misses an entire game. That player can then be put on the IR and you can sign someone else. When the IR player is re-activated you must release somebody from your current roster.
- stats count only for starting lineup players (bench player stats don't count)
- owners must post their daily lineup in this thread - bench players' stats don't count for your team so this is REALLY important. You can post day by day, or for an entire week, month, or season. Please post clearly player name, school, and the position at which you are playing them. Lineups must be posted before games start that day
- scoring determined by pts, reb, ast, steals, blk, 3's-made, 3pt%, FG%, FT%, & TOs
- player eligibility is Division I only (no DivII, DivIII, or intramural players)
- open free agency - first to the punch wins
- transaction limits:
- three transactions in a calender week (runs from 12 am Sunday to 12 am following Sunday Eastern time - this is Saturday midnight)
- trade/transaction deadline: Feb 7
- live draft will have snake format (the last team to draft in the first round will draft first in the second round and so forth)
- players can be drafted only once by only one team (two different teams cannot have the same player)
- game ends at end of regular season - so playoffs games don't count.

We can obviously change rules if a majority agree.

I hear you about it being an interesting year. Last year a lot of us had some phenomenal seniors. Kelsey Minato, Shereesha Richards, Whitney Knight, the Holy Trinity of UConn, Lexi Eaton Rydalch, Brittany Crain, Courtney Williams and Tori Jarosz. It's going to be an interesting guessing game to figure out who will replace what departed last season.

I think in particular with the mid-majors, there are a lot of questions about who will step it up--the America East has a Shereesha Richards-less Albany and Maine graduated four starters. Army lost the best player they've ever had, FGCU is rebuilding. So do we look for players on teams like Mercer or the reincarnation of wild thang Avery Beverly-Kelly of Troy somewhere?

Well, JMU has Kayla Cooper-Williams (Miss Block City, who can also score) and Da'Lishia Griffin, plus the return of Precious Hall, so you could look there. Hall was pretty damn good before she got hurt. Hailee Barron is a wild card..if she's on, she can hit from downtown Harrisonburg. Not sure who, if anyone, can replace Jazmon Gwathmey, though.

We got some nasty women who get s*$&@#) done for you to draft into service! (Yes, equality exists! We let women get drafted here!) It's anybody's guess who goes first this year--Kelsey Mitchell may be the best player in the land--but is she the best pick for a Fantasy Team? Who will be the first to pick the best player that nobody has heard of from University of California - Unknown? Will Tbinta's favorite player develop butterfingers after a stunning first game? Will Cardinal become obsessed with winning one category and participate in a race to the bottom in the others? There's this newbie who will certainly throw a wrench or seven into those who are busily planning their season.

The tabloids are trembling in anticipation of Myrtle selecting Shannon Coffee with her first round pick. This product out of Stanford is going to do great things, she's going to make Stanford great again! She's so great, she's going to keep on winning, and winning, and nobody's going to stop her! Shannon Coffee is the key to making Stanford great. Why, you ask? Simply because Shannon is going to make Stanford great again. Who? Stanford! Who? Stanford!

That was not my best photo editing, something is up with the program, FYI, the bottom corner states all credit to UConn Magazine.

Been drinking too much again Cardinal?

and it may be too early to assign Coffee as the next Picknell. Hey Picknell got a Stanford degree and looked like she enjoyed her limited role on the team as well...so she got the last laugh!

I love Tess, she's phenomenal. I am super happy that she's gotten that degree from Stanford and she'll go on to do good things. Did you know that Sarah Boothe is still playing in Russia? Stanford kids are crazy.

We shall have to see how Coffee develops, I for one am excited.

Unfortunately when I posted that I was trying to be satirical and funny to make people enjoy it....apparently I fell short...

So, we have four players so far, does anyone else out there wish to join in order to find the next Kelsey Minato and Tiasha Gray?

Myrtle, how many people do you feel we should have in order to proceed?

we need at least six who will definitely stick with it but IMO eight is optimal. 10 is doable. More than that gets unwieldy. If more don't show up by next weekend it's probably not worth our time and effort... unless everyone wants to run two teams. Crying or Very sad

My life doesn't have anything too important going on to prohibit me from the 10-15 minutes this requires. I'm ready!

For a jeopardy wizard, there is nothing to it! Come on over to the fun'est game in town.

Sorry to hear that. Hope everything comes out ok for you. Real life does sometimes get in the way of our fantasy lives! If you think you will have time later in the season, let me know if there's a way I can help you out in the short run until you get past that 'stuff'.

If you get enough players to give this a go again, I'd be willing to defend my championship in rebounding Laughing

(Though I fear it might be a rebuilding year with stars like Ruvanna Campbell having graduated)

I think we currently have five. Myrtle, I think that if we don't get a sixth, I'd be happy to help you draft a wild card team for some lucky manager to pick up and manage later if they want. I don't know about you, but I kind of want this to happen.

awesome! If you need some help along the way with lineups, just let me know.

My inclination is to draft at least the first six rounds at a specific time that works for everyone, then do the rest as a rolling draft that finishes by Wed. night (Nov 9)? If we do it all in one sitting, it gets to be pretty long. But if everyone has the stamina for it, we can go longer at one sitting.

Since tbinta says Sunday, how about Sunday at 8 pm Eastern or earlier if folks can make it? (keep in mind the time changes Sat. nite). Does that work for everyone? If not, suggest something else! We can have a cutoff time where we finish at the end of a round (even if we don't get 6 in) so we don't have to stay up tooooo late for the Easties. And it helps if everyone has their rebkell profile set up so that they receive an email when they get a PM. And it helps A LOT if everyone has their list already ready so you know who you want, with contingencies of course because some of your favorites are sure to be grabbed by greedy cardinals.

And I guess we need an outside volunteer to pull names out of a hat to give us the order for the draft. Currently it's cardinal, slaman, tbinta, pureform, rebounding Matt, and myself plus Lynx now! If our volunteer could please pick a #8 mystery person just in case someone else joins us before Sunday that would be perfect. Thanks in advance for the name puller. Laughing

open for feedback...
