Best possible news to wake up to today. I just wish his retirement was effective immediately. I can't wait to see the north end of him going south, right along with his hand-in-pocket buddy Jimmy the Cheek. Cheek *says* he is going to teach at UT, but I doubt that his classes will be at all popular. Heartless Dave, OTOH, will probably have people cheering the moving van at his house. If he's smart he will get out of Knoxville as quickly as possible after his retirement is effective.

And Art, you can just shut up.

Hopefully this means we can finally get a new coach.

This AP article has a more balanced slant:

Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart will retire next summer

Quote:
Hart's tenure at Tennessee began in September 2011 and featured major increases in fundraising, improvements in academic performance and several lawsuits.

Under Hart's guidance, and with help from the launch of the SEC Network, Tennessee's athletic department posted a surplus of $13.1 million in 2014-15 after facing a deficit of $3.98 million in 2011-12. Tennessee student-athletes overall have posted grade point averages of 3.0 or better for five consecutive semesters.

On the other hand, there's this, from the Knoxville paper this morning:
http://www.knoxnews.com/sports/vols/charlie-daniel-take-on-dave-hart-retirement-390581971.html

(I love Charlie Daniel. He was the speaker at my daughter's high school graduation. Inspirational and funny at the same time.) Anyway, in general, Heartless Dave will NOT be missed in Knoxville. I thought nobody could be less popular than Mike Hamilton, his predecessor. I was wrong.
