I can't believe, as a UCONN fan, how excited I am for next year. Things are going to be very different this year in Storrs, CT. We have a great young core, but they're just that, young. With the news that UCONN and Texas are playing a home and home series, starting this season, I started to really think about the schedule. I know we play in a shit conference, so please don't beat a dead horse with this. This is just a thread about schedules.

With that being said, our non-conference schedule is BRUTAL. And necessary. So, these young Husky pups are going to be tested hard and early! That is 13 non-conference games. With The American moving to a 16 game league schedule, I believe Geno could still schedule 1 more non-conference game to bring the total amount of games to 30. I thought Louisville would be on it, but maybe that's next season, which is when Stanford comes back too.

Home: Baylor, Chattanooga, Dayton, DePaul, Ohio State, South Carolina, and Texas.

Away: Florida State, Kansas State, LSU, Maryland, Nebraska, and Notre Dame.

I really, REALLY wish that conference and non-conference games could be split up so that more non-conference games could be played during the season, especially for teams that, like UConn and also my JMU Dukes, are in relatively weak conferences. Often teams are not at their best early in the season, and the non-conference games are not the matchups they should be.

JMU tries its best to schedule tough non-conference games, but many majors avoid them, fearing a loss as they rightly ought to. Still, it hurts JMU's RPI and SoS. Also, as this has always been a team that gets better as the season goes along, they'd benefit from a schedule that scattered tougher non-conference games in among the conference games.

I really think such a schedule would benefit UConn, also. Playing in the AAC, it looks to me like they get a little complacent with all those blowouts.

Is it written in stone that conference games have to be played in a block starting in January and you can only have one or two games interposed?

I agree with everything except complacency. UCONN knows they can pick the score against most teams in their conference, but I think they really play at a high level no matter the competition. You will see them work on specific things against specific teams that is preparing them for the long run. I too wish teams could break up the conference schedules, but travel and scheduling probably has more to do with that, more than the coaches.

UCONN and South Carolina have played in February the past few years and will likely play in February again next season. Playing in February benefits UCONN more than South Carolina but it is cool to see ESPN go full throttle for a marquee WCBB matchup in February... 18,000 fans showed up and it made for great TV. I wish the game could've been more competitive but I predict more teams will start to play marquee regular season OOC games in the future.

No Chance for Maples Magic to end the streak next year? This is atrocious. Unspeakable.

Not my Bruins, though! And, a couple of seasons ago, we took that feared loss.

Indeed. Not sure how JMU will look this year without Jaz and Ashley and especially without Kenny Brooks, but OTOH, they have Precious Hall back for one more year, and I don't think Coach O will differ very much in his approach, so we'll see. I expect this game will not be one of their more favorable outings, but we could all be surprised!

I thought Ohio St's schedule looked pretty weak compared the last one.

I just can't with Baylor's schedule.

Mississippi Valley? Houston Baptist? Southeastern Louisiana? I mean, you might as well fall asleep and wake up for Tennessee, UConn, DePaul/Western Kentucky and UCLA--no offense to everyone else.

South Carolina is still putting together their OOC schedule, but thus far have @ Ohio State on Nov. 14th, Minnesota on Dec. 11th, @ UConn on Feb. 13th, and will play @ Texas, and host UCLA and Clemson on thus far undetermined dates and times.

They will also play Louisville in Springfield Mass as part of the 2016 Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge on Nov. 27th:

As is typical, JMU wil probably not have theirs finalized until August. Sad

I know that feeling. Hell, one of my conferences waited until June to decide they were cutting two games off the conference slate, so now everyone has to scramble for two out of conference games. Who knows when they'll all be settled?

Which conference cut two games from their conference schedule?

I know the American Conference did. There may be others.

JMU hasn't finalized their schedule yet, but it was just announced that they will open their season at home on Nov. 11 against none other than Tennessee!

Oh boy...my loyalties will be severely tested, for several reasons! Although since living here I have become a pretty serious JMU fan, I have to admit that I still bleed orange. Besides that, I will, next season, be a proud holder of JUM season tickets, making me a "purple person". But for this game I will bravely don my UT orange and sit amid the sea of purple and cheer both teams. Tennessee should win reasonably easily, but I do expect the Dukes to give a good account of themselves under Coach O and will be extremely disappointed if they don't!
