I do read VolNation because it's one of the few non-pay sites where one can find LV news (after sifting through a lot of garbage). I'm frequently astounded by how many posts/posters belittle the HS players currently being recruited by the Tenn coaching staff. It happens every year, despite the likelihood that those players, their families, and/or their coaches read that board. |
I don't read either one, nor do I read govols24/7. The posters on all of them are basically disgusting and the posts are garbage. The only other board I read besides this one at present is the one over on proboards, but it's turned into such a UConn homer board that I'm about to stop reading it too. I read a JMU board during basketball season only but not otherwise, although I did keep up with it during the coaching change. If there are any other decent broad-spectrum WBB boards such as this I don't know about them.

Oh, somewhere in this favoured land the sun is shining bright,
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light;
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children
shout,
But there is no joy in Knoxville—mighty Holly has struck out.

Nicely done.
Well, it has been amusing reading the recruiting thread at VolNation. There were seriously people predicting they would get Patterson, Westbrook, Jade Williams, Dodson, Evans and one or two others. A class of at least six truly elite prospects. It would have been a recruiting class of historic proportions. Maybe the best ever.
Now I wrote here before that Holly was doing very well getting herself into the final list of at least a dozen excellent recruits. Impressive improvement over last year's disaster. The Tenn official visitor lists were probably the best in the country. But to delude oneself into thinking they are all going to accept is quite a different matter. They were going head to head with Stanford, ND, Duke, Texas, SCar, Louisville etc. None of these coaches are exactly slouches when it comes to recruiting. If they got a couple they should be celebrating.
They have landed two excellent recruits and still are in on two or three more. They're doing well. But the natives are nonetheless restless.
They lost out on three of these to Duke, ND, and Stanford. I assume education was a significant factor.
I never assume anyone is a "lock". First, who knows what's most important to 17 year olds in choosing a college? Too many factors in play. Second, too easy to be disappointed if you assume a favorable outcome.
BTW, here is one of my favorite overreaction posts from VolNation: "I have a feeling that Holly needs to clean house with her assistants. Somebody in ktown is scaring recruits away.". Wow. What can you say to that.

Vols got two quality bigs already and aren't out of the race for some good 'uns so I don't know what they are complaining about.

The Tenn faithful have an astoundingly poor understanding of the academic differences between schools and how this can influence recruits, and more importantly, their parents.

I know it's confusing, but isn't she ranked 35th by Blue Star?

But she is the 35th person listed, is she not? The rank some players the same rank and then do not skip a rank when they move to the next woman. They have 2 ranked 30th (Rennia Davis and Chelsie Hall) and 2 ranked 31st (Ana Llanusa and Deonna Day).

Why not start a new thread for 2018 recruits?

UCLA is really building something special. That is, and should have always been, the premier West Coast destination outside of Stanford.
