The Tennessee Lady Vols have received a commitment for the 2016 class from Kamera Harris, a 6'3 post and shot blocking specialist from Hampton, GA. She averaged 7.8 blocks a game in her senior season at Dutchtown HS, also averaged 6.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. In 2014, Harris set a national single-game record with 28 blocks.

Better late than never!

A true shotblocker can make a huge difference, though the fact that she shot 43% from the field and that at least seven of the team's 28 games are missing from the stats gives me a little pause.

They did win a playoff game, though, and that's a good sign.

The two top unsigned players are Sabrina Ionescu, who should announce in early May (Oregon, Oregon State, Cal) and Tyasha Harris, who has said she will announce the day before she goes off to school.

At the latest, Harris is down to South Carolina, Iowa, or Michigan State in no particular order

Another concern should be that she wasn't even an honorable mention all-state player (Dutchtown is in AAAAA)

http://highschoolsports.blog.ajc.com/2016/03/25/2016-ajc-all-state-basketball-teams/

Additionally, she was not named to the AJC All-Metro South team either

http://highschoolsports.blog.ajc.com/2016/03/25/2016-ajc-all-metro-basketball-teams/

One would think that if you were garnering enough attention to be a high DI signee, you would at least make it on one or both of the lists, especially over players that are signing with DII schools.

Was she one of the Neumann & Goretti girls in Philly last year that was the subject of a big brouhaha between Mike Flynn and a local HS coach over whether the stated ages for a bunch of Nigerian girls (including Aiyeotan) were questionable? I don't recall what the resolution and fallout from that flap was.

Not trying to try and stir the pot on Sabrina Ionescu but the USA Today story rubbed me the wrong way. Why throw the Texas coaching staff under the bus in a media article? Why talk to a reporter about that?

http://usatodayhss.com/2016/why-sabrina-ionescu-is-the-last-uncommitted-top-25-girls-basketball-recruit

My relationship with the coaches at Texas werent at the level they should have been, said Ionescu, who is averaging 26.5 points this season. And I dont think the relationship wouldve been built up by the time I needed to decide. I dont think they wouldve been the best option for me.

Ionescu said she left a voicemail for the Texas coaches in the fall, alerting them of her decision. She said she never heard back. College coaches are not allowed to talk about unsigned recruits.

They are probably a bit upset, but they have a very good recruiting class coming in, and I dont think they are too bothered, she said.

Yeah seemed weird but it doesn't matter as she has decided and goes by her own timetable no matter what she tells anyone in the press.

I think she was, and I don't recall either. Mike Flynn strikes me as a particularly nasty piece of work so I don't take anything he says with less than a pound box of salt at my elbow.

JMU is getting a player from Neumann & Goretti next year.....IF our AD doesn't throw a spanner in the works by hiring the wrong coach. He's being so effing slow that there is more than muttering locally about him peeing or getting off the pot, and no signs of any interviewees either. ~smdh~

I have not seen Youth Coach post on this, but Boston College picked up another Australian commitment, Taylor Ortlepp:
http://wnbl.com.au/adelaide/player/?playerId=171965
http://www.sportingpulse.com/team_info.cgi?pID=199553398

She is with the team that former Duke player Jess Foley is player-coaching for:
http://www.foxsportspulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=0-3656-0-397125-0&sID=39560&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=42466134

Actually that makes it interesting because she will presumably leave the team early to go to summer school. I guess Jess will just have to play herself for more minutes to compensate.

My guess is she'll be playing for different coach when she's a junior ...

She's getting a free Duke education. I suspect the rest is a sideshow to her.

I might remind you that so were quite a few others. It didn't work for them.

Cayton was a combo guard for St. Mary's of Stockton, the No. 2 team in the nation. About 5-10, athletic, slasher but can shoot threes a little.

She should help someone ...

Maybe she follows her teammate to OrSU?

Most have stayed. Others keep signing up. I doubt if Salvadores was here for the education. Stevens made it clear in her comments that basketball was, or had become, her priority. People have to make choices regarding what's important to them.

I was also referencing the possibility that JPM might not be there in two years ...

ANYTHING'S possible. Probable? That's another question.

I hope someday, though, it will be revealed just HOW Coach P convinces these kids to come and spend any time in her presence at all, never mind under her authority. There is some enormous disconnect I don't get.
