A tough and feisty Auburn team on their home floor will be a tough challenge for the Gamecocks. Auburn defeated Kentucky after all, in their conference opener. UK hosted Auburn in the Tiger's last game before tonight, and barely kept from being swept on the season, beating Auburn 54-47.

Tonight's game will feature two of the top scorers in the SEC this season with Auburn's Brandy Montgomery at 17.1 ppg and A'ja Wilson at 17.0 ppg., as well as several top rebounders as USC's Alaina Coates 9.5 rpg is 2nd in the SEC behind UK's Akahator's 10.0 rpg, Wilson is 4th with 9.3 rpg, and Auburn's Tra'Cee Tanner is 7th with 8.4 rpg. Wilson also leads the SEC with 3.5 blocks per game, which is good for 5th nationally. She collected 22 blocked shots in her last 3 SEC games...

The Gamecock's Wilson comes into tonight's game earning her 4th SEC Player of the Week honor, in addition to ESPN National Player of the Week honors as well.

Gamecocks lead at the half 33-20. USC had a bout of lazy perimeter defense after jumping out to 10-2 and 12-4 leads, and Auburn took advantage by hitting a number of threes to take the 1st quarter 15-13. USC then righted their defense and out-scored the Tigers 20-5 to take their halftime lead.

Alaina Coates leads the Gamecocks with 9 pts and 9 rebs. Tiffany Mitchell and Tina Roy have 6 pts each. A'ja Wilson added 4 pts and 5 rebounds. Auburn's Janiah McKay leads the game with 10 pts, shooting 4-8 and 2-3 from the 3-pt. line....

All other teams in the SEC have at least 2 losses.....is huge for USC on their chances of winning a 3rd consecutive regular season championship.

Only 2 SEC teams have won 3 or more consecutive regular season championships in SEC history, doing it 3 times: Auburn from 1986-87 through 1988-89, and Tennessee twice, from 1992-93 through 1994-95 and from 1997-98 through 2003-04.

That final run by Tennessee stretched across seven consecutive seasons, with one championship shared with UGA. It is the SEC record for the longest run of reg. season titles. I'm thinking Dawn Staley and South Carolina have their eyes set on matching that....
