Was intrigued from a little blurb in a recent tidbit on USA Today, about many women basketball players in NCAA Division I are foreign-born.

They credited with the following article for the numbers: 275 foreign-born women are playing NCAA Division I basketball. And 132 of them are from Europe.

Maine played Purdue this year and I swear their entire roster was made up of foreign kids.

After reading your post I went to look at the Maine roster, and in 3 games this season Maine started 5 players from 5 different countries, that's crazy. I thought Washington State had set a recorded by starting players from 4 different countries.

I hark back to a year when Susan Walvius was coaching SC and they had 8 players on their roster from an assortment of countries including Turkey and Croatia. They were also holding up the bottom spot in the SEC. My friend and I were at the game in TBA and I observed that SC's problem seemed to be that their players just weren't communicating. "Well, how can they?" queried my friend. "None of them speak the same language!"

Seeing as I brought them up, I figured I owed it to everyone to check out Maine's roster. Here it is:

England
Serbia
Sweden
Finland
Greece
Italy
Austria
Germany

8 players from foreign lands...it's like the United Nations. Kind of reminds of how Old Dominion and Florida International used to be.

Well (alluding to my other post about SC), the Scandinavians ought to be able to understand one another, besides which English is taught early on in their schools, but that leaves the Brazilian and the Romanian a bit on the outside Wink
