Erin Boley is averaging 29 points, 14 Rebounds, 4 Steals this year. In the championship game of the 32-team Lexington Catholic tourney yesterday she had 39 Points ( 11/15 FG, 3/3 from three, 14/15 FTs ) and 10 Rebounds in leading her team to a 70-37 win and was named tourney MVP.

Meanwhile, as reported by WEVV (Evansville, IN) news, "Jackie Young is on her way to becoming the state’s all-time leading scorer, the Notre Dame commit surpassed former Fighting Irish star and current Tulsa Shock guard Skylar Diggins’ Indiana High School scoring record Wednesday hosting South Central.

Young scored 42 points for the Tigers 39th consecutive win, totaling 2,806 points over her career. Diggins totaled 2,790 points when she played for Washington (South Bend), where she became Miss Indiana Basketball and Gatorade National Player of the Year in 2009.

Current Butler women’s basketball coach Damon Bailey holds the all-time scoring record [for men] in Indiana with 3,134 points."
Young has a good chance to become the all time leading HS scorer in IN, men or women.

And, they get this year's freshman Ali Patberg - another scorer - back from injury.

They've been loaded for a long time now. Has anyone had a more talented perimeter in this era than Diggins, McBride and Loyd? The beat goes on.

Agree 100%, but they were a few years before and they played in a system that didn't let them flourish. That was, indeed, a terrific trio.

Georgia had the Miller twins, Tweety Nolan, and Kiesha Brown, but that may be a bit too far back.

Notre Dame will be very interesting next year.

First of all, having a senior class of Turner and Allen will be incredible. Mabrey2 and Arike are getting tremendous early experience. And Westbeld has really stepped into her role as a fluid forward type.

Muffet's successful teams as of late (last 5-6 years) featured great guard play (Diggins, Allen, McBride, Loyd), three-point shooters and role players, players who maximized their abilities (Mabrey1, Novosel, and Cable, among others), and a lot of versatile perimeter players who could score in the post, step out when need to, and who developed into solid passers (Peters, Achonwa).

Turner and Reimer did not really fit the recent "post mold" trend. Both are highly skilled, but neither had a consistent mid-range jumper that could be a weapon. I never got the feeling that the offense was as fluid as it could be (and ND's offense the past several years has been a thing of beauty) when both were on the floor.

With Westbeld taking Reimer's place in the starting lineup (my guess is for the rest of the year), I expect the offense to return to what I am used to seeing. First of all, she is a great complement to Turner, as she can step out to mid-range, but also has learned how to be a complementary player to stars while stepping up when she needs to. The next step for Westbeld is extending the range to three in games, but you can see how much she has improved from last year, when she had a very solid freshman campaign.

Westbeld was a top 25 player and a McDonalds AA, but someone ranked no higher than 21st by the main recruiting services. With Boley, I expect a better Westbeld (kind hybrid of Westbeld and Duke's Haley Peters, only better than both players). That will certainly shore up ND's frontcourt, leaving 2017 as the year to find the eventual replacement to Turner (or 2018, as Turner is a sophomore).

With Young, you get a slasher and midrange scorer with great athleticism, who still needs to develop that three point shot. But she is a good balance to Boley in terms of their versatility and the ability to invert the 3-4 positions on offense and defense (though Young is listed as a guard, she is more of a power wing at this point, like a Monique Currie at the same stage). And she is the type of player Notre Dame does not really have on its current roster (not to mention someone who plays bigger than her 5-11 height). If Muffet and her staff can work with Young on her three-point range and really develop her perimeter shooting, she has the potential to be an All-ACC performer for multiple years.

And this is all before discussing whether Reimer returns as a player to the team.

Some excellent guard trios...guess I'd go with Ukari Figgs, Stephanie White and Katie Douglas with Kelly Komara coming off the bench.

Turner is only a sophmore. She and Allen are not the same class.

Erin Boley keeps on rollin'

From Dec 30 - "Erin Boley is playing like she’s got the weight of the world on her shoulders.

For the second time in six days, the Elizabethtown senior forward set a career high in scoring as she led the Lady Panthers to another victory.

Boley racked up 40 points as Elizabethtown beat Americus-Sumter (Ga.), 65-55 on Tuesday in the Sunshine Shootout semifinals at the Community School of Naples (Fla.).

Boley, who was two shy of the Elizabethtown school record for points in a game, went 15-of-20 from the field, 3-of-4 from the 3-point line and 7-of-9 from the foul line, grabbed 12 rebounds and had two blocked shots as the Lady Panthers ran their winning streak to 12 to open the season."

Jan 5 - "Elizabethtown, No. 1 in Dave Cantrall’s Rating the State, got 24 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals from Miss Basketball candidate Erin Boley in an 81-18 rout of visiting Central Hardin." (they led 40-5 at the half)

Meanwhile Jackie Young scored 43 in leading her Princeton team to a 44th straight win, this time over previously undefeated Evansville Central. "The Princeton Community High School girls basketball team handed the previously unbeaten Evansville Central Lady Bears their first loss of the season following a 75-64 win. The Lady Tigers found themselves in an early dogfight against an extremely physical Lady Bears squad, but a third quarter explosion by senior guards Jackie Young and Kiana Hardiman and junior center Brooke James propelled Princeton to a 75-64 victory."

I don't think any team besides UCONN is a real lock this year; however, if there is one other team that has a proven track record of finding a way there it's Notre Dame. They've lost talent year after year to graduation or other and have still found a way to get there.

It will only be for a limited time, and South Carolina is losing a nice scorer after this season in Tiffany Mitchell, but next year it could look like:

PG: Bianca Cuevas: a talented and quick PG that's scoring 9 ppg this season in a reserve role. I can definitely see her scoring in dbl digits next season.

SG: Allisha Gray: transfer from UNC who led the Tarheels in her final season with them and is 2nd only in UNC program history (behind Marion Jones) in scoring the most points in her first 2 seasons as a Tarheel, scoring 1,053.

SF: Kaela Davis: transfer from GT who led the Yellow Jackets in scoring both her years there averaging 19 ppg for her 2-year career, and became the fastest in GT program history to score 1,000 pts in a career (52 gms)

PF: A'ja Wilson: leading scorer for USC currently in her sophomore season averaging 17.1 ppg: at that pace Wilson needs 19 more games to surpass 1,000 pts scored in her first 2 years in WCBB. USC currently has 16 more reg. season gms left to play.

C: Alaina Coates: 3rd-leading scorer for USC currently in her junior season averaging 13.1 ppg: Coates is currently 14 pts away from scoring 1,000 for her career...

As good as the season is going this season, I'm even more excited to see how next season plays out.....

Is the SEC going to change its rules to allow S.Car. to use 5 balls at a time next season?

And is "hey we got all these transfers" supposed to be the response for Staley's dismal performance in recruiting elite HS players?

Davis might be looked at as a gunner, Coates, Gray, and Cuevas are willing passers. Also we don't no if Davis was asked to be a go to shoot more then her teammates, KD and Gray will both give South Car 3point shooting something the team needs.

They'll be fine using just the one ball. Although I'm sure next season their opponents will think they are using 5 balls against them....

Last year Davis and Gray shot 28 and 30 percent respectively from beyond the arc, not exactly encouraging numbers if SC is looking for reliable three point shooters.
Also if SC is hoping to get ball handlers and defense which they will desperately need next year, upon looking at Davis and Gray's assists to turnovers and steals neither is the answer there either.

As far as Cuevas, she has shown nothing this year that she will be factor, quite the contrary.

Getting back to the original intent of the thread, Jackie has a sweet jumper in her arsenal and her quickness helps her get her own shot.

Jackie scored another 38 points in another win today. She needs just 28 more points now to break the girls scoring record (and has at least 8 games left to do it).

Nice interview with Shanna Zolman, whose record she is about to break.

I wonder whether Indiana allows play for high school teams by 6th, 7th and 8th graders to count in "high school" career statistics. Most states do; some don't. I have no idea, however, whether Young -- who sounds like a terrific talent -- played on her high school team while in grade school.
