The Pac 12 is shaping up to be a great conference this year. Even though I doubt they will have a top 5 team all season, there are 4 teams that are ranked (Oregon St-7, Stanford-10, Arizona St-18 and Cal-21). Two other teams (UCLA and Oregon) are receiving votes, and Washington may also contend. In Massey's ratings the Pac 12 has 4 in the top 16 and 10 in the top 60. Only Arizona is outside the top 100 at 112.

Through the first 6 days the Pac 12 is 19-1, including two road wins over ranked opponents (Cal over Louisville and Oregon over North Carolina) and two wins over teams receiving votes (UCLA over St. John's and Stanford over Gonzaga). The only loss was Arizona State losing in overtime to Kentucky.

Given the parity it is unlikely that any team will go 17-1 like Oregon St did last season. The Pac 12 looks like it could get 6 teams in the NCAA with a 10-8 conference record probably assuring inclusion.

It'll be interesting to see where the teams are in a few months time.

This weekend holds a big tests for a few teams.

Stanford plays Jonquel Jones and George Washington.
Colorado will attempt to avenge the PAC-12's only loss so far against Kentucky.
UCLA faces South Carolina.

If the Pac-12 wins one of those games, I'll be happy.

I have a bad feeling we could be 0 and 3, but I hope not.

Wish we could see the Pac-12 games here on the East Coast but considering there is a dearth of women's games anyway it appears that wish is not going to happen any time soon.

Bruins came within 3 points of upsetting the second-ranked team in the nation. Not too shabby!

The Pac 12 now has 4 teams ranked in the top 16 (OK - Cal and Arizona St are tied for 16th) with UCLA, Oregon and Washington all receiving votes. Stanford has looked very strong, winning at Gonzaga and destroying George Washington at home.

Today, Arizona (along with Utah, the worst teams in the conference) had an impressive 15 point win over Kansas. The Pac 12 has the best record of any conference, which will show up in higher RPI ratings as the season goes on.

The big games this week are:

Tonight
USC vs. West Virginia (in Spokane)

Tuesday
USC @ Gonzaga

Thursday
Utah vs. Oklahoma (Bahamas)

Friday
California vs. Texas A&M (Las Vegas)
Arizona St. vs. South Carolina (Hawaii)
Washington vs. Syracuse (Las Vegas)

Saturday
Oregon St vs Arkansas (Puerto Rico)
Washington vs Texas Tech (Las Vegas)

...well, spoke too soon on Stanford, which somehow managed to lose to Santa Clara.

Pivotal games for the conference tomorrow probably are Oregon State-Southern Cal along with Cal-Zona State.

To a lesser degree it will be telling if Stanford performs well in Arizona, and the battle for the cellar likely begins with Utah facing off against the Cougs.

Still boggles my mind that The Cardinal lost in Tuscon last year.

Which loss is worse, Santa Clara at home or at Arizona in Tuscon?

Stanford takes care of business, Washington escapes, UCLA impresses, and Arizona State seems to be in control despite Cal threatening to come back.

Arizona State takes the important win against a NorCal school, crucial match with Furd in a few days.

Wazzu takes its first lead against the Utes 71-70 with 1:28 to go.

I was impressed with both mountain schools. They look like they can be competitive, at least at home. Only Arizona showed nothing.

Arizona showed nothing, but still has two Pac-12 wins--that's a whopping two more than the Buffaloes.

Cal's taking a huge step backwards this year--and Alleyne is completely owning Anigwe. I thought that there were people claiming that Anigwe was so much better than Alleyne?
