Wow, Ohio St to #6? And UNC should not even be ranked.

It's the name recognition so far--this is a team that was a perennial threat for the past few years--and regardless of who they lost--maybe (wait, who is left?) Xylina McDaniel's chucks for the hoop will miraculously always go in UNC will beat UConn in the second round of the NCAA Tourney as a #9 Seed.

Hey, it could happen. Slim odds, but it could happen.

The thing is, if Stanford could do it last season, someone else should be able to do it this year.

Notre Dame is a little too high. I'd put them at #6.

Duke is too low. They should be flirting with Top 10.

They're finally respecting Ohio St.

I think Notre Dame could almost be #2. They have a great PG and a great post player.....and Muffett is a far better coach than Dawn Staley.

Yet no one is giving Tara credit for being a great coach and being the only one to beat Geno last season with her motley crew. Tara always has a trick or two up her sleeve.

Baylor has a coach that knows how to win championships.

Why do you think no one's giving her credit? She also lost ten games last year.

So where do you think a team coming off a ten loss season should be ranked? Is there some superstar addition or other change that would suggest a significantly better likely outcome this year?

Obviously. My point being that you can have a great coach, yet talent is what really matters. Stanford DID beat UConn, but as others have pointed out Stanford did lose 10 games last season--an aberration by standards on the farm. I'm not convinced that Notre Dame has better talent than South Carolina this season--and I'd like to hear the reasoning for why Dawn Staley is a better coach than Little Miss Muffet.

If you put Ken over ASU, you have to put Cal over Louisville, beating them in their own house in a hostile environment with the younger team Wink LOL

Here's a breakdown of how each voter in the AP Top 25 women's basketball poll voted for the first poll of the regular season, which was released Nov. 16:

The dissenters logic:

"Everyone knows UConn is still going to be the team to beat. But the Huskies haven't played a game yet, and South Carolina beating an Ohio State team that's good enough to be a Final Four contender is impressive enough to warrant a No. 1 vote, at least for now."

-Seth Soffian, The News-Press, Fort Myers, Fla.

The only question now is whether UConn will be unanimous the rest of the season.
