1pm ET espnU

After trailing by as many as 16 points in the first half— its largest deficit this season — the top-seeded Green Bay women’s basketball team outscored No. 5-seeded Northern Kentucky by 11 points over the final 20 minutes, and Mehryn Kraker poured in 27 of her career-high 32 points in the second half to propel the Phoenix past the Norse in double-overtime of the 2016 Horizon League Tournament semifinal, 80-78.

Tough loss for NKU in the semis - missed 2 FTs, needing just 1 of 2 to win it, at the end of the 1st OT. Hopefully they can sneak into the WNIT - they're a bit lacking in talent but a really well coached team (whose coach could well be a candidate for a bigger and better job this offseason).

OTOH, since NKU is ineligible for the NCAA tournament anyways, it would've been pretty anticlimactic for UWM to get the auto bid by default.

It's all UWGB as they are up 38-18 at the half.

I wonder when/if anyone is ever going to really challenge UWGB in the Horizon. I think they are up to about 18 years in a row of winning the regular season conference title. They have been upset a few times in the conference tourney but that's still quite a dominant run.

Ironically, that happened with Northern Kentucky last year in the A-Sun as they lost to FGCU in the title game. Below are the A-Sun rules.

The change in A-Sun policy arose after NCAA clarification that a conference may set specific criteria allowing its highest ranked finisher to be the AQ recipient if a non-eligible team were to participate and win the conference postseason tournament. Prior policy had determined that the conference would lose its AQ if an ineligible team won the tournament

I was hoping that stat was just you making it seem that long, but you are correct. They have won every year this century, with the streak starting in 1999. Milwaukee shared the title in 2001 and 2006. Even Old Dominion only won 16 of 17 in one stretch between 92 and 08. Impressive.

They usually do. That's a team almost ready to move up to a P5 conference.

Confused

This is a team that went 2-2 against P5 teams this year, none of which are going to make the tournament. They lost to UVA and Rutgers, neither of which finished in the top half of their conferences.

That was early in the season, and I said *almost*. I also didn't say they'd place in the top right away either. Geez....you sure read a lot into one comment. Rolling Eyes
