A little birdy told me the cards got blown out in a scrimmage with Ohio State by nearly 40, IF that is true I have to go with Cal.

That could be more of a statement on Ohio St than Louisville. Should SC fans be nervous?

The problem with picking Cal is that they are extremely young and it's still unclear what this version of Cal is going to look like with the tremendous losses from last year. I'd love for the Bears to slay the Cardinals, but I don't think it's going to happen.

Cal does have a freshman who dunked in practice.

Can't be much younger than the Cards who are basically 2 sophmores and a bunch of freshmen.

Cal is down to nine players as one of their frosh has to take leave of absence due to a concussion (not received while playing btw). I think this squad has oodles of talent, but they will likely take a while to gel. I would think the Cardinals have the edge, particularly with home court against a very young group of Golden Bears...starters two frosh, two sophs and Courtney Range, a junior. Sounds like Louisville is a very young squad too....hope these two keep scheduling games with one another because in a year or two...watch out! Very Happy

My prediction for the Cards starting five:

G So Arica Carter
G Transfer Briahanna Jackson
F So Mariya Moore
F So Myisha Hines-Allen
C RS Jr Cortnee Walton

The bench is all freshmen. Asia Durr would start if healthy, but she is reportedly at about 70%.

Both teams are fairly young, so there's really no telling what the outcome will be. Briahanna Jackson has been getting a lot of praise from the coaches so I too think she will get the start. Really looking forward to seeing all the Louisville freshmen. Should be a good game! Go Cards!

Cal is up 27-18, their defense is pretty dang tough with all of their size and length. Like this team thus far.

Cal is up 35-27 at halftime. Cal is shooting 50% to Louisville's 32%. Cal has 17 turnovers though, compared to 7 for Louisville. Louisville getting killed on the glass, Cal is +11 on the rebounds so far.

So far, it's our Bears in a nutshell: showing how talented they can be, their potential for inside-outside attack, length on D, and also a bushel of turnovers, many of their own making.

But Gottlieb and Co. clearly had this team ready to play.

Let's see what adjustments Walz will be able to make at halftime and whether Bears can really stay with a 7-player rotation.

Louisville has to be thankful that JAckson transferred from UCF, she is hitting big shots for them.

Range and Anigwe have 4 fouls, this is dangerous because Cal really lacks depth.

Cal up 6 with 2:09 left. Timeout, Louisville ball. Fuehring has fouled out for Louisville, while Walton has 4 fouls. Cal has Anigwe and Range with 4 fouls.

If Cal had 1 shooter and maybe 1 more athletic guard, they would be really tough. Louisville is getting beat pretty badly on the inside.

Cal up 1, 37 seconds left and Cal ball. Myisha Hines-Allen now has 4 fouls for Louisville.

Clutch layup by freshman Asha Thomas for Cal. Cal up 70-66 with 21 seconds left. Louisville ball.

Hines-Allen fouls out, and Cal is gonna win this game. Great building block with Anigwe.

Louisville's "secret" transfer Jackson is really talented, but shoots a lot.

Some folks laughed when I said Anigwe might be the best center in the league as a freshman.

2nd game of her career, in a tough road venue, against a top 10 team, she gets 19 pts, 8 rebounds.

She's going to get even better.

Still laughing?

Figured this would be a tough one for Louisville. Cal should definitely be in the top 25 if not the top 15, watching them now its clear Louisville is over ranked. They both had their strengths and weaknesses throughout the game but each team has a lot of young talent and will be fun to watch in the future. Congrats to Cal.

I would never laugh over such a statement. Doubting yes, laughing no. She looked great, and will no doubt be very good, and will probably someday be the best center in the P12. But right now, we need to see her against some good centers before declaring her such. Louisville has never been, and is still not very strong in the middle. And looking at their schedule, it might be awhile before they meet a strong center.

Grats to Cal on a well-fought victory!

At the end of the game, it was nice to see Cal stay poised, still playing team ball and crashing the glass. And something new--hitting free-throws!

No matter if Louisville was over-ranked or if Cal should have been top-25, a win over a talented, elite team, in front of that 16,000+ crowd, is tremendous.

Walton and Jackson are basically seniors so Louisville is not that young, Cal plays with 1 junior and the rest soph and frosh. Nice win for Cal.

I like this Cal team. They seem far more mature than you'd expect from a team of mostly underclassmen. Anigwe is a star and will blossom in the Pac 12. Congrats to the Golden Bears!
