She was very popular in these parts and is the most dominant team athlete I've ever heard of. Today, in Waterbury (CT), a softball field will be named in her honor.

I was unaware of her amazing basketball record.

I saw her pitch once. A 2-hit shutout. I knew she was a golfer too but didn't know about the basketball.

Thanks for posting this. I saw her play for the Raybestos Brakettes.
Also every year there would be a charitable event at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, CT which my brothers and I used to attend. Spec Shea, who pitched for the Yankees in the late 40's was one of the organizers. He was friends with Ted Williams who would come and hit batting practice. Also Joannie would with her softball delivery pitch to Williams from the mound which was a regulation minor league affiliate mound, 60 feet, 6 inches. She struck him out on three pitches. This was back in the late fifties early sixties.

Yes, she still is a legend right up there with Jimmy Piersall in the Waterbury area.
