You are the Earth coach for the Earth-Klingon death match game, after which the losing planet gets annihilated.

You can pick any of next season's NCAA guards as your first roster pick. You have no idea who else will be on your team.

Point guard, shooting guard, lead guard, combo guard, pure guard -- these terms don't have to have any meaning to you. Just pick any player who has a "G" and nothing else next to their name. (My source is wbbstate.com.)

I've listed some candidates.

On edit: Oops, I forgot Diamond DeShields of TENN, who was listed as G on wbbstate.com for her freshman year, and I can't seem to edit the poll choices. Opt for "Someone else" if you want DeShields.

They usually don't anyway.

Give me MoJeff; though the Mitchells also make a compelling case, if I don't know who else will be on my team (assuming that if it's for the fate of the planet, the rest of the players will also be pretty talented), I want someone who can complement the rest of the unit.

If it's one on one I'll probably take Mitchel but if it's 5 on 5, MoJeff is the best choice

I would need to know more about the Klingon team, particularly their size and weaknesses before making such a momentous decision. I am not particularly keen on planetary annihilation. Smile

Head says MoJeff or one of the Mitchells. Heart and poll vote are with Aliyyah, because I am a Johnnie and God help me but I'll die a Johnnie if I have to.

The Trekkie in me wishes to nit-pick that the Klingon homeworld is Qo'noS.

That might not be a good assumption. Here's the head of the selection committee:

Janning went skydiving yesterday. The Klingons might've blasted her out of the air, now that I think about it.

You win the thread (and I say that happily - that was very good).

Has to be someone who hates both sides equally. Maybe a Romulan? Or a Cardassian?

Or... how about Q? *cues up maniacal laughter*

(Look, if y'all didn't know I was a nerd, what board have you been reading?)

My reaction was that interjecting a Ghostbusters reference into a Star Trek discussion was sort of ipso facto a crossing of the streams.

I was preparing for every molecule in my body to begin exploding at the speed of light.

To me, what was beautiful about it was that it was a Ghostbusters reference in response to a Star Wars reference in a Star Trek thread - and it fit perfectly.

Or how about the Organians? (We need at least one ST:TOS reference.)

Oh, God, yes, that would be perfect.

(Seriously, do not make Star Trek references around me, I'll be as easily distracted from the original point as a stereotypical ADHD patient in a room full of sequins.)

The Organians don't hate the Federation and the Klingons. They just see them as less evolved.

Yes, but they've played a mediator's role before. On the other hand, they dislike getting involved with lesser species.

Sigh . . . I didn't set up the question the way I had in mind, which was to force people to focus more on whether they would choose a scorer, passer or Megan Goldstein. I should have specified that all the other Earth players would be randomly selected from Division II.

In any event, this is the water girl for one of the teams.

I may have to take a trip to Miami.

As of now I will take Allen, but that's only because she blasted Stanford. She was scouted as a pass first, which she is but showed she had some other tools!

I would think that if this were a battle for the planet's continued existence, we would be picking better players than NCAA D-II ballers, unless it was some kind of weird balancing thing because the Klingons don't know basketball as well as humans do.

"OK, who's gonna take a charge from one of those Klingons? Earth depends on it."
