There was a lot of pressure placed on the University Trustees, including by some members of the state legislature, to revisit the adoption of the uniform "Volunteers" and the "power T" logo. The Trustees have now rejected that effort, effectively ending the discussion (although I'm sure not the hand wringing). The Lady Vols named will be discontinued for everything other than women's basketball.
I've seen a rumor that the decision has already been made that it also will go away for women's basketball 18 months after Pat Summitt's death. Whether that's true or not I have no idea.

I doubt they will wait that long. She could live for decades.

Do it for all or do it for none. Keeping it for WBB but removing it everywhere else demonstrates that it's not about brand unification, but about power.
There are very few gendered team names I'm personally comfortable with. Lady Vols is one of them, because of the deep history women's sports have at Tennessee, and not just basketball. I don't know that I'd want to be lumped in with the men's sports at Tennessee.
And the new uniforms are ugly on the front.

Agreeing with you, Queenie.....those new units are FUGLY. And some team names need to be left alone. Heartless Dave and his buddies Jimmy the Cheek and JoJo the Clown (Di Pietro, the university prez) did not make themselves any more popular at UT by abolishing the Lady Vols team name. Hart is on a power trip, but true to form he blamed it on Nike. He can't take responsibility for anything.
While some "lady" names are or would be flat silly (JMU being the "Lady Dukes" would make anyone ROTFL, although calling them the Dukes sounds silly enough), some make sense....Oklahoma State are the Cowgirls and that's fine. Others keep theirs out of tradition, Baylor being the Lady Bears, and AFAIK LA Tech are still the Lady Techsters.

I love calling Baylor's men's team The Gentlemen Bears.
