Why oh why can't ESPN show us all 4 of Fridays games at different times!!

South Carolina comes on at 7pm on ESPN

Baylor comes on at 7:30 on ESPN2

Both Flordia State and Notre Dame come on at 9:30- Fla State on ESPN2-

Notre Dame on ESPN

Don't they think that we would like to see all of these games in their entirety rather than having 1 game overlap the other and the last 2 on at the same time!! I know we can watch on ESPN3 but it is hard as hell to watch 2 games at the same time. I am really pissed because I like to follow both South Carolina and Baylor. On Sat they have all 4 games on at different times. Why can't they give the same consideration to the Friday games!

Rant over but still pissed. Mad

I don't blame you.

I've talked to several people and they agree that ESPN's scheduling of the women's tournament has been awful.

But it looks like we're stuck with ESPN for another five years Crying or Very sad

I believe on Friday 3/27/15, they are taking into consideration when most people work, but they did put the games that are on at the same time on two different channels, so you can flip back and forth. People with bigscreens can probably do PIP with success.

No I think they believe (probably correctly) that the number of people who want to watch ten straight hours of these games - all four from start to finish - is infinitesimal, and they would lose a lot more audience by moving two of them to afternoon times on Friday rather than showing them during prime time.

Most people will either switch back and forth to the more exciting game, or DVR one of them to watch later.

The bigger concern should be the impact it has on the players and on the integrity of the game starting a game at 10pm or later as the ND-Stanford game is scheduled. How do they expect players to play their best playing after midnight as this game will be? It's really unfair to the teams, particularly to eastern teams. They should be starting the OkSt region at 5:30 and 8:00 eastern time rather than 7:30 and 10:00.

It doesn't help to watch one game and dvr or replay it on espn3 because they show the scores of other games while you are watching one. While the South Carolina game is on they will be showing the scores from the Baylor game. It takes the excitment away from watching a game when you already know the score.

again, espn's tournament coverage continues to be an embarrassment and a PITA.

I would like to see documentation which tracks how many viewers espn would lose by showing 4 games in an 8-hour window on the two days of the S16.

If a loss of viewership is proven, I would then like to see how that decrease correlates into a lesser bottom line, and further, how that smaller number impacts the economic viability of Disney/Hearst, the corporate masters of The ESPN Family of Networks.

Frankly, I think the economic excuse is horseshit.

Given that the first four rounds are now Friday-Monday instead of Sat- Tues, what else do you want them to do for these Friday games?

I think having all four games watchable (two on ESPN, two on ESPN2) starting at 7:00 and 7:30 is the best option.

No complaining here.

CBS is doing exactly the same thing for the men's games on Thursday and Friday.

If they started the games earlier we would have a whole different set of people complaining about the early start times on the west coast, still at work, etc.

Seriously, someone always has a gripe.

Integrity of the competition should always take priority over viewing convenience. And starting games after 10 pm should be a nonstarter.

Which game/s started after 10pm local?

No game is scheduled to start at 10 pm. local time this weekend. ND tips at 9 local.

The ASU-FSU game is slated to tip at 9:30 local.

To the complainers above who complain about legit complaints: your complaint is appreciated. Very Happy

9 local, but 10 for the players. Meanwhile for the opponent it's a quite normal 7pm. Same disparity in the other games only a half hour earlier.

But then you knew that already and were just trying to spin it as if there's no issue.

No spin dude. God, you are another paranoid one.

I thought there may have been a late start in an earlier round that you were referencing.

ND will have been in OKC for how long before the game- 48 hours or so? If MMcC thought that wasn't enough time for them to acclimate to an hour-later time zone, wouldn't they go earlier?

Do you seriously think it puts ND at an disadvantage? If so, do you think Geno forced espn and the selcom to do it?

Shocked

10 for the players? Good lord, are they that soft? There have been several times when B1G teams located in the eastern time zone have played at a B1G opponent in the central time zone and have tipped at 9 for TV purposes. And those teams show up the day before the game, not 2 days before.

This couldn't be more of a non-issue.

Hold on a minute ...

So first, ESPN was ripped for playing games in the afternoon, and too late at night.

And now, ESPN is ripped for playing games at the times everyone wanted ESPN to play all the games last week.

I guess some people just like to be upset ...

^^^^Would this be a dismissive response? ^^^^

The move from Sat/Sun to Fri/Sat exacerbated the problem, imo.

However, that can't be blamed for the heinous Mon. R2 schedule which included:

RU @ CT 9p local
LOU @ USF 9p local
OU @ STAN 3:30 local

Here's something really weird. For some reason, espn offers 100% of the coming Saturday action, in sequence, w/ no (in theory) overlap, on one channel. 12, 2, 4:30, 6:30 on ESPN.

How is this possible? What of lost viewership/advertisers/revenue?

Is Geno behind this madness? Is he bent on bankrupting The ESPN Family of Networks so that he can become WCB Czar? (Yes, that makes no sense, but it's as credible as any other Geno/UConn conspiracy which graces these pages).

Meh. Several first-round tournament games started at 9am PST, which strikes me as unfair to western teams. The UW Huskies went out on a 9am game. That's tournament basketball.

What do you mean by "become"?

My extremely boring take on the scheduling this weekend is that ESPN thinks that what it's doing will maximize total viewership, and that ESPN probably is right.

And, for what it's worth, it's exactly what is being done for the men's tournament both today and tomorrow. If you're a WCBB fan, you're actually going to have fewer overlapping games in the 3rd round to worry about than the men.

When Connecticut played at UC Davis this year, it was a 7pm pacific start, that's a 10pm start for the Connecticut players. UCLA men's basketball hosted Nicholls State in a 8pm pacific time start game, that's a 10pm start time for Nicholls State players. I don't recall hearing people complaining about those games.

And there are numerous games like that around country, and that of course is not counting when the day starts, if a game starts on the East Coast at 12, for a west coast team that is a 9, but the day starts with shoot around and/or film 7am or 8 am which is really 4am or 5am for the west coast players, and no one complains about that either.

while this all isn't perfect, I'm not going to complain.

I remember watching the 1995 final 4. I hope someone knows the exact times but UConn played the 2nd game of the semis on a Friday night.

they then had to face UT the next afternoon.

as soon as the game was over espn cut away. no interviews or anything after the game. to me... playing the semis and finals in a span of about 18 hours sucked for the players and fans

its not perfect now... but is better. if the sport grows and more demand it.. things may change.

Well... to be fair, *I* complain about that, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Actually 1995 was the last year when it was on CBS. The semi's were around noon and 230 ET on Saturday before the men's semi's. The title game was on at 4 ET on Sunday.
