"Big" upset, so a 3 over a 2 doesn't count. I'm using your definition, pilight!

A #4 or #5 over a #1 doesn't count either. Nor does a #7 over a #3. The only big upset chance this round is Tennessee-Gonzaga.

By the results (Tennessee getting upset leading by a country mile) I think we should make UConn fans ineligible to vote in this poll. We should consider whoever gets the second most votes the winner.

OK, so I've invented a new definition of "big" upset. These are the ones *I* would consider big in this particular tournament. Wink

FWIW, I picked Dayton. Shocked

I think Gonzaga has a chance to upset Tennessee, Gonzaga is a very good team, and can not be taken lightly. Especially with the game being in there backyard I don't think this is going to be a runaway for Tennessee.

So I wouldn't be surprised if many of the votes are not Connecticut fans.

I'm sure some are. But I find it hard to believe that objectively Gonzaga has such an obviously greater likelihood of pulling an upset than a couple of other teams on that list as to produce the current margin in this poll.

The ESPN foursome's picks. Only one upset prediction (by Graham Hayes).

I wouldn't have thought Gonzaga could beat Tennessee in this tournament until I watched both teams for the first two rounds. Tennessee didn't win either game dominantly, so I could easily see an upset here.

I picked texas over Uconn even thought it probably won't happen. I could see Stanford taking out ND tho.

Jesus some people need help for that uconn paranoia....

Personally I'm torn between Dayton and Gonzaga.

Tenn is banged up and the Zags will be playing in front of 15K fans. Meanwhile, Dayton should have the majority of the Albany crowd behind them at least until halftime, and Lou isn't exactly a juggernaut. If the refs don't allow the Walzing Whiner's players to go thug, I think the Flyers have a decent chance.

I don't give the others much hope although anything can happen, of course. If Tex can get UConn into foul trouble; if S Car can't make a 3, and if Stanford can't miss from 3...

I guess I'll pick Dayton, cuz I'll be there cheering them on.

Here's one UCONN fan who didn't pick Gonzaga (although that would have been my 2nd. choice). I picked Dayton because the few times I watched Louisville I wasn't impressed at all. They simply didn't look like an Elite Eight team.

I don't know what the numbers are when you replied so they could have been a lot different than now, there are only 5 more people who voted for Gonzaga over Tennessee than the 2nd place scenario of Dayton over Louisville. I don't think that is that outrageous of a margin that Gonzaga over Tennessee should automatically be disqualified.

Edited to add: I believe I read somewhere here (I looked in a few threads, but I didn't see it, so maybe it wasn't on this site) that at least one person thought Gonzaga had the easiest road to Tampa because they are playing in Spokane.

I agree on both counts.

As one who is accused of being a UConn fan by some non-UConn fans, and of being a non-UConn fan by some UConn fans, I can only say that in either reality I don't see why UConn fans in an anonymous poll would suspend their actual analytical beliefs just to . . . what? . . . record a "spite vote" against Tennessee, a team UConn hasn't played in eight years. If anything, as of now, I think lots of UConn homers dislike Notre Dame more than Tennessee, because they fear Notre Dame more than Tennessee.

I was impressed by both Dayton and Gonzaga as much as I've been impressed by Louisville and Tennessee, but it's possible that that's just a novelty reaction or Cinderella hope in my lizard brain.

Well, Zags lead LVs 18-12...early, but the #2 poll pick came through.

maybe the poll responders are pretty dang smart. Smile
