Congratulations to her. She's pretty much sweeping them this year.

EDD vs. KLS

Time for the height police to get something accurate for the first time in WBB history. Who is how tall?

Who is stronger, the better rebounder, the better driver, the better shooter?

A well-deserved award for KLS after a brilliant high school career and senior year, even if she is so petite.

Not here, but Diggins is:

Is KLS wearing heels? Unlikely. But every anatomical part of EDD's body -- head, shoulders, chest, arms, hands -- seems bigger, longer, wider, stronger than KLS's.

KLS looks like she's wearing a school uniform, note all the girls with the same skirt, which would surely mean no heels.

STATS for all her games. 900 points in 30 games. Twice had 10 threes in a game.

Let's hope EDD got some of that "Don't go, don't go-o-o....home is betterrr..." messaging into KLS's head, directly or subliminally. Cool

Heels or not, the very FIRST thing I noticed when I first saw EDD in the flesh is that she's NOT remotely *hulky*....she's very lithe and sinewy, but not "big". Tall, but not "big".

KLS goes only 2-13, but Mater Dei avenges its two prior losses against Chaminade to win, 48-44, in the California Open Division SoCal regional finals.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/highschool/la-sp-girls-regional-basketball-20150322-story.html

This seems to put Mater Dei in the state championship game against St. Mary's on March 28 in California's Byzantine playoff system.

How did, as the plaque says, Maiter Dei High School do a "three-peat" in 2010 - 2011?

Delle Donne is one of those players that they probably don't have to inflate the height of, so if she is 6'5", then Samuelson could be 6'2" ish in that gym photo or at least 6'1.5". I think someone said recently that Ann Strother was blown up from 6'1.5" to 6'3.

Oh, I guess the 2010 - 2011 was the "season of the three peat", not the "years of the three-peat".

We lost track of how KLS's Mater Dei team did in the California state championship game. They lost to St. Mary's, 76-69, being outscored by 10 points in the fourth quarter while KLS was hobbled with four fouls. KLS had 19 points and nine rebounds.

Mater Dei coach Kevin Kiernan, who coached both Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Katie Lou Samuelson says a comparative this about KLS:

I think shes the best offensive player the countys ever seen, said Monarchs coach Kevin Kiernan, who has coached in some capacity locally for the past 30 years. Ive never seen a kid that size (6-foot-3) shoot the ball that well.

I hate to put her above Kaleena (Mosqueda-Lewis) and Jeanette Pohlen, who was a great player, but Ive never seen a kid score like she (Samuelson) can from perimeter with her size. Its going to be a long time before we see someone like her come around again, if it ever happens.

Kiernan called Samuelsons senior campaign the greatest offensive performance he has ever seen.

KML played on a stronger Mater Dei team than KLS. Mater Dei won two mythical national championships when KML and several other D1 players were were on the team. Hence KLS faced more double teams and junk defenses.

I saw both KML's and KLS's team play in the Spalding Naismith Classic at Blake Arena, and I thought KLS was the better all-around player and offensive threat, mainly because she is taller, has a better offensive post presence, and is inclined to drive and get fouled more than KML was.

All due respect to Kevin, but Elena Delle Donne was the greatest high school scorer. She was and is everything is, but two inches taller.

Clay, you perhaps misread Kevin's quote. He said "county" not "country".

The TV announcer who has broadcast California girls basketball for over 20 years said, after Mater Dei beat Long Beach Poly in the playoffs, that Katie Lou Samuelson was the best California high school player he's seen in his career. I'll try to find his name and a link to that game.

The broadcaster's name is Paul Westphal (sp?). At 1:28 of this TV broadcast

http://portal.stretchinternet.com/mdhs/full.htm?eventId=208925&streamType=video

he says to KLS, whom he's interviewing: "I'm not one given to superlatives . . . but I've been doing high school basketball for 26 years, and you are -- by far -- the most pure shooter-scorer that I have seen at the prep level in all of my 26 years . . . ."
