So is Louisville. Last I heard, SC didn't have any available scholarships for 2016. I'm sure Dawn could make it work if it came down to it.

Slocum is looking at Duke, Maryland (both of which she's visited this summer), South Carolina, Louisville, Notre Dame, and TN which she does plan on visiting.

South Carolina is full for 2015 . Not even close to being full for 2016 . They will have 5 seniors (counting Sarah Imovbioh ) .

Based on her play in this game, I would like to see Dawn start Crystal Dangerfield as the PG. Yes she's the youngest and going into her Sr Year of HS, but the offense seemed to flow smoother and most importantly she had ZERO turn overs.

Patberg and Ortiz were turn over city. Slocum didn't do much better, but I'll give her a pass and she hasn't been with the team.

I say like Morgan Tuck, Collier will be a future All American.

So I guess Wilson should be benched immediately, she was responsible for 6 of their 30 turnovers Shocked

Whats up with Collier and not passing to an open teammate on a fast break, saw her do the same in previous games either she cannot dribble and look up or she is selfish?

Spain again looking bad. How will Salvadores transition, the spanish players all travel both on the court and on the inbounds, they have sloppy passing and dribbling and over play on defense?

Comfortably ahead of China.

Wilson impressively driving ambidextrously from the high post.

Collier has put up two three-point shots. Made one.

Again Stevens gets taken out and she is doing really well, stats are much better than Wilsons. Anyone else see a pattern here.

Re USA vs. China:

Very impressed again by Wilson and Collier and unimpressed again by Cox. Azura Stevens played very well, and the same can be said about Shakayla Thomas even though she missed so many snow birds.

It would have been very interesting to see this team with Katie Lou Samuelson on it. She probably would have been battling for the scoring lead.

Crystal Dangerfield seems to be slightly shorter than Moriah Jefferson, and doesn't seem to have quite the same speed or handle. She might have a better shot than Jefferson at this stage of development, given that Jefferson was an unimpressive shooter until her sophomore year in college.

In my opinion Stevens would be leading scorer of this team with any other coach. She is more versatile than Wilson and she gets taken out without being allowed to get into any flow. Anyone can rack up stats and hit open shots when they know they are going to play, doesn't mean they can do the same when they are under pressure or expect to be pulled.

Dangerfield likes to shoot it and not always in the flow of the game, typical PG these days.

There are many discussions about the lack of fundamentals at this tournament. Seeing a lot of pick up basketball. Lack of leadership.

So I assume playing Stevens instead of Wilson? She started the 1st game and was 1-5 and didn't rebound. That was why she lost minutes. Meanwhile Wilson was pretty much out the entire 1st quarter due to rolling her ankle, came back in an ended up leading the team.

I agree Azura is a very talented player, and she showed it in the 2nd game what she can do if she bears down. But the U19 team has too much talent on it to have players on the floor just clocking in. If they do that, they can clock in on the bench and watch someone else actually play...

two games:

Wilson (20:06 mpg):

15-31 (48.4%), 17.5 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.5 spg

Stevens (13:24 mpg):

8-16 (50.0%), 9.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg

IMO Stevens doesn't bring the physicality of Wilson. She's more of a stretch forward than a center, and while A'ja considers herself to be a guard, she has a true center's body, and more importantly she knows how to play like a true center in the post. Far better than anything Stevens brings in that regard. The team needs rebounding and post defense....

I don't think Stevens has to displace Wlison. She is better as a three/ four as she is in college. She seldom if ever played the five as a certain Ms. Williams occupied that position at Duke. Also, Dangerfield is there for one reason by default she is their best ball handler. She is third in minutes, fourth in FG attempts and first in assists. Her function is to handle the ball which no one else seems to be able to do with the same alacrity. If Asia Durr where here, Crystal would be seeing a lot more pine time.

Didn't like Wilson's TO's, but since she doesn't play guard and it the best forward/post player that this team has she should play.

However, IMHO Dangerfield has been outplaying Gabi Ortiz who Dawn has starting. ONLY based on what I see on the court, Crystal should be starting over her. She takes better care of the ball, even if she sometimes forces a shot. Zero TO's in Two Games.

Thats because she is looking to score not pass hence the number of times she is at the line. 5/10 and 3/4!

vs. Egypt:

The ACC (Stevens, Thomas, Moore) beating Egypt, 26-18, at the half.

imo, these FIBA U19 game announcers are nearly as informative as espn's, and much less annoying. Wink

Agree on both counts.

The Egyptian coach is excited and vocal. I believe he's saying, "If you don't score, all your relatives will be beheaded."

Staley is harder to understand, speaking in Philly ebonics.

Is there anyone left to insult?

Taiwan vs China, 1:15pm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ye9HgKZPnCo
Mali vs Australia, 8:15am: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6vk0sAn54g
Netherlands vs Spain, 12:45pm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBqxRvVkSbw
Belgium vs South Korea, 8:45am: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RokwNiFCQjQ

Canada vs Serbia, 6:30am: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqvLxNkXtyo

On a side note, having YouTube post times in my timezone is surprisingly confusing. I can only cope with things written in three time zones right now, none of which are mine, Eastern Daylight, British Summer, and Central Europe Summer.

Probably because Azura picked up 2 quick fouls in the 1st quarter... She eventually played more in the half. Unfortunately the fouls stalled her momentum a bit when she was the only American player getting anything done early.

Awhom, thanks so much for the YouTube links. I've been completely relying on them to watch this tournament.

Nixtree, it's a real puzzle why Anigwe hasn't been playing, though she got decent time today.

Hehe you always make things interesting Glenn. Good analysis of the stats.

The whole Anigwe thing is a mystery. From last year I remember her and Holmes as the dominating posts throughout the tournament. Everyone I talk to seems to agree with my eval that she improved a ton since then.

You must mean the stat analysis I did on the Pan Am team in that thread, since I don't think I've done one here.

I recall having the same impressions as you about Anigwe and Holmes last summer on the U17 -- that they were both really good and more impressive than Cox. This summer Holmes was not even at the tryouts and Anigwe seems to sit on the end of the bench.

Live stats for Argentina game, a blowout so far:

I do believe Collier can cultivate a reliable three-point shot. She has nice form and touch on the few she launches.

Does Stevens have motivation issues? As much as there's a ton of talent I wonder if she gives a sh*t sometimes.

Shooting 25% from the field and co-leading the team in TOs while playing the fewest minutes is not helping her cause.

Are you watching the games? Hopefully you watched today as the only player who didn't seem to want to play was Wilson. Putting her at the top of the zone was an absolute waste, she has no lateral movement and defends with her arms by her side. But she is going to get her opportunities that's for sure, which cannot be compared to the minutes of other players like Anigwe.

I read that Anigwe had been suffering from an illness on this trip so that may have impacted her minutes/play (according to a story on USA Basketball usab.com) http://www.usab.com/news-events/news/2015/07/usa-u19-women-defeat-china.aspx
