Angela Savadores shot 1-10 for two points. The Debil of Durham may be dyspeptic.

Just to show how tough all the other countries have it, a bunch of teams are already working on qualifying for the 2017 version of this championship before this one starts. This is not even the first round for that as last summer, the Central American teams competed in the 2014 COCABA U16 Championship just to get to this year's Centrobasket U17 Tournament as they play for spots in the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship. The Centrobasket portion is going on right now and Puerto Rico has several players in mainland high schools. The USA and Canada have it easy!

Having followed her season in Spain in depth, she just seems prone to random games where no shots fall.

Salvadores was streaky at the last worlds, but she did have a great game in the final.

As far as recruiting, it is what the recruit believes from the bullcrap they are being told by college coaches. Others get upset at the use of negative recruiting and using their power with USA to do that.

Thanks Awhom. Read on a college board that U19 lost to France in a scrimmage. Looking forward to the Australians, French, Italians and Czechs.

Although the USA web site still includes Samuelson on the roster, the FIBA site includes Slocum. I was told there were some "paperwork" issues w/r/t Slocum but it looks like they've been resolved. My guess is that the USA needed to file a request to add Slocum because the named alternate -- Patberg -- replaced Durr.

I'm a little surprised USA has not announced the addition of Slocum to the roster; or maybe I missed it. Right now the only confirmation we have is a report from the Idaho Statesman and the USA roster at the FIBA site.

Announcement just released. Reference in the article is to an illness in Katie Lou's family.

Group C just got very interesting. Belgium with the unexpected victory this morning. Go Belgium! Also, Mali put up more of a fight than expected, but that's a tough group to be in.

Thought it was interesting that five players played less minutes than Slocum. I saw a USA Basketball tweet saying that Slocum just landed in Russia today and since she wasn't added to the team until now, she hasn't even practiced. She still played more minutes than 5 of the players. If she wasn't an uncommitted high school recruit with a staff of college coaches who probably want her, I think the minutes distribution may be a little different. She did look pretty good though given the travel/jet lag that likely ensued but after reading about the whole USA Basketball and recruiting stuff it makes some of these playing time choices a little interesting.

I would think that she needed to play as many minutes as possible seeing how she has zero minutes with the team. These recruiting conspiracy theories have become overblown IMO.

A'ja Wilson continues to impress with her polymathic basketball skills. Low post, high post, drive, handle, pull up jumper -- she does it all. One play particularly impressed me. Wilson, sprinting ahead on a break, caught a bullet pass with her right (off) hand and palmed it all the way in for the layup. That would have been a great move for a 6-4 player using her dominant hand, but it was magical to me because I thought Wilson was so lefty dominant.

Napheesa Collier has ball magnetism. She's always in action around the ball -- handling, driving, shooting, rebounding, putting back, poking, stealing, blocking. If she had a three-point shot, I'd call her a lock for college All-American. But she doesn't have such a shot as of yet, though she seems to have the shooting touch to still develop one.

I've yet to be consistently impressed by Lauren Cox, at least with respect to her top rankings, and I've seen her as a U17 and U16. She is of course talented, but I don't see consistently effective back-to-the-basket moves or a consistent outside jump shot.

I was just reacting to the box score, but in general you'd think the practices in between game days would be when someone would get acclimated.

But in regards to the actual game I think USA's frontcourt is pretty darn good for this level, but the guard play is just alright.

Cox had this one play where she got the rebound, dribbled coast to coast and made a nice pass but the player missed the shot. She does seem to have all the tools and a diverse skillset but maybe not GREAT in one area, just really good in a lot of areas? Haven't seen her much.

She has none and have any of you seen Anigwe this year? I know the Cal fans are furious and I have to kind of agree with them although it pains me. How about you let Slocum show you in a practice that you should play her! I said it last year when Staley took Turner out every time she went on a scoring run, there is no way she is going to let any other player out score her own. And please explain why Azure is getting pulled and sitting?

Btw everyone is talking about Holmes kicking butt on the club circuit and showing why she is the better player.

What, you don't think "give it to A'Ja" is an offense? Very Happy

It looks like they did a lot of work on defense though. That press and string of steals to start the fourth quarter was impressive. Was it six straight?

Is Staley recruiting Slocum? I can't even imagine the chaos that would ensue with her and Cueavas in the same back court.

Based on her play in this game, I would like to see Dawn start Crystal Dangerfield as the PG. Yes she's the youngest and going into her Sr Year of HS, but the offense seemed to flow smoother and most importantly she had ZERO turn overs.

Patberg and Ortiz were turn over city. Slocum didn't do much better, but I'll give her a pass and she hasn't been with the team.

I say like Morgan Tuck, Collier will be a future All American.

Were there as many cries of outrage back during the 2011 Pan Am Games, when a skinny 17-yr. old high schooler was allowed to dominate the minutes on the floor, shots taken, etc. over a team roster of 20-something collegiate stars on way to a 2-2 mediocre showing? I wasn't a member here, so I'm just asking....

So is Louisville. Last I heard, SC didn't have any available scholarships for 2016. I'm sure Dawn could make it work if it came down to it.

Slocum is looking at Duke, Maryland (both of which she's visited this summer), South Carolina, Louisville, Notre Dame, and TN which she does plan on visiting.

It'll be interesting to see how being coached by Dawn and Jeff may influence her decision. Either she stays in the west and plays for WA, or she heads east and plays for one of the above.

She's been quoted as saying she wants to go someplace that's on the rise. I know she plans on visiting TN and that's probably out of curiosity and respect (she's a fan of Pat and Candace Parker), however based on this statement I don't see her going to school who's already won a Championship. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.
