Pitt played at Notre Dame tonight.

One of the Pitt starters at F is Monica Wignot.

Wignot hadn't played basketball for four years since high school until this year. It seems that when she was coming out of high school, Pitt coach Suzie McConnell-Serio recruited Wignot to come play basketball for her at Duquesne where she was then coaching. But Wignot decided to accept a scholarship to Pitt to play volleyball. This past spring, McConnell-Serio (who had subsequently taken over as Pitt WBB coach) asked Wignot, who had used up her 4 years of volleyball eligibility, if she would like to stay and use her fifth year playing basketball. She said yes, and has been starting.

But this game brought another coincidence. It seems that Wignot's mother, Dr. Terese Wignot, played for Notre Dame coach Muffet McGraw in her first season as Lehigh coach in 1982-83.

I saw Wignot when Pitt played Boston College. She was practically unstoppable.

She apparently also is in range of breaking the Pitt season record for blocked shots.

Gifted athlete.

And I like what McConnell-Serio is doing at Pitt.
