Some more assistant coaching shakeup and this to me was really unexpected. Rutgers just lost two assistant coaches with Chelsea Newton going to Georgia and Tia Jackson going to Miami.

UGA's staff right now is Karen Lange and Chelsea Newton. I think Robert Moseley was retained but not 100% sure. That leaves Angie Johnson as the coach not retained from that staff.

He was retained.

From the UGA press release

Quote:

The hiring of Newton completes the Lady Bulldogs' coaching staff. Crenshaw was named Georgia's head coach on Sunday, April 12, just under a month after hall-of-famer Andy Landers announced his retirement following 36 seasons at Georgia. In addition to Newton, Karen Lange was announced as the Lady Bulldogs' associate head coach on April 24 and Crenshaw retained assistant coach Robert Mosley, who has been at UGA for three seasons.

Utah staff is complete http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865628814/Utah-womens-basketball-completes-staff-with-the-hiring-of-a-former-Aggie.html?pg=all

How long is LSU going to take to hire someone? Didn't even have a full staff last year!

Taj McWilliams-Franklin is named the head coach at Post University (located in Waterbury, Connecticut). This is her first head coaching job.

Kevin Morrison is a new assistant coach at Georgia Tech. This one is out of left field for me. Morrison west coast guy at a program upward trajectory in Washington. Goes to Georgia Tech whose best player just transferred and quite frankly has less potential to be an NCAA tournament team playing in a more top heavy league.

Did not see this anywhere-new Assistant Coach, Tony Greene, at Toledo. Spreads our recruiting area out, also.

Now that most coaching moves completed, just wanted to ask if anyone had any feedback on Greene, positive or other? Just asking as his resume could be for a coach, not another assistant position. Maybe the HC job market is just that tight. Just wondering.

A very interesting move for Morrison and Georgia Tech.

I've known Kevin for some time (but due to an error on my part we're not at all close) and his track record is impressive. He started out as a SoCal club guy, built a nice program, latched on at Cal and helped Joanne Boyle recruit some serious talent. Then did the same thing at Washington.

So there's a couple ways to look at this:

1) Georgia Tech is going to make a move on the West Coast, specifically Southern California, since the SEC competition is so tough in the South;

2) Morrison is looking to broaden his base in order to increase his chances of getting a head job somewhere; or

3) As always, we speculate without knowing what's really going on.

Morrison was associate head coach which means he's taking a step down to coach at Tech. He was a finalist for the UCSB head coaching job but lost that. If he is looking for that head coaching job, strange that he would go from associate head coach to assistant coach.

Or, maybe he might be another in the line of African Americans who are simply leaving the West Coast for the South.

On the DIII side, Lindsay Shade takes over at Anderson. She was an assistant at Ball State and NAIA school Taylor.

Ivory Latta left UNC to play professionally overseas during the winter season. Makes sense, can only play pro ball for so many years but can coach for much longer so might as well play while you can.
