^ Y'all are getting a good one. It is a shame she has to sit out a full season when she was able to play only four games at NC State because of injuries.

I hate losing her, but transfers were expected because our scholarship numbers are so messed up right now.

^Bone fracture in her foot that required surgery. I think she would have gotten a lot of playing time otherwise.

Anyone have transfer stats or know if this is an unusually large amount for 1 year?

I think it's a large amount of multiplayer transfers from single schools.

South Carolina: So I literally just read an article about how Jatarie White will get a ton more playing time next season now that Welch and Ibiam have graduated. 3 headed post monster with Wilson, Coates and White...

and now Imovbioh?

Interesting. It's crowded in the paint but SC is getting a good player and Imovbioh will greatly enhance that team - and her WNBA draft stock for 2016.

It's not Boyle's fault that Sarah wants to go to grad school elsewhere from Virginia, is it?

That actually seems somewhat the norm, not just Virginia but other schools too. Perhaps she was not admitted to the graduate program in her field at UVA. That's what happened to Simmons at Alabama. Or perhaps there might be someone she particularly wants to study with at SC. There is a student component to student-athlete.

Doesn't the graduate transfer rule require the new school to have a field of study that the original school did not, or did that change?

No transfers per se, but all 4 of SEMO's incoming frosh have been granted releases.

New coach and pending NCAA investigation by former coaching staff play into players seeking other opportunities.

No it didn't change. It's just meaningless.

It's just a matter of finding a program at the desired school that has a different name than anything at the old school, which is typically pretty easy.

Anyone who thinks this transfer (or the overwhelming majority of the others under this rule) is about educational opportunity and finding the right grad school to match the student's educational goals probably believes in the tooth fairy too. That's why a lot of people want to abolish the exception. It's simply a "if you graduate you get to transfer without sitting out" rule, which is not what was originally intended. It was actually supposed to be used sparingly for the educational purpose. Instead it's become just a "free transfer" pass.

This is entirely about choosing to play basketball somewhere other than UVA for a coach other than Boyle.

And the problem with that would be ...?

Parents of Qierra Murray George Mason ---> has not transferred to East Carolina. They said that they have been working frantically to get that removed as coaches keep reading. She has been released from ECU but is trying to find a home.

Obviously you think that should be the rule for everyone, but that's not the rule and isn't likely to become the rule. And this wasn't intended to be a "free transfer, no sitting out" rule. Which is why it may well be changed or revoked because in relation to the purpose for which it was adopted, it's not functioning as intended.

But the comment was actually directed at those suggesting this had nothing to do with Boyle and was all about education.

Have to believe the grad transfer rule will be changed very soon because of how it has been used in men's sports.

I don't have strong feelings about the rule though in this era of one-and-done basketball players who have no interest in completing the 2nd semester much less degree requirements it does seem harsh to punish (probably not the right word) athletes who have earned a degree and have fulfilled their obligation to their original institution.

Opponents to the rule include a lot of FCS institutions who believe their schools are developing these kids only to have them become free agents and play for FBS schools. One and done coaches like Cal and K also dislike the rule, feelings that I'm sure intensified after Pitino signed 2 pretty good grad transfers (Lee and Lewis) who will likely be starters next season.

Not just FCS schools. Smaller or less prominent FBS schools have their best player who they developed for three years cherry picked by higher profile teams just when they should be most productive. This has happened in basketball in particular.

Although it's worked great as far as I can tell (albeit not as intended) in giving football players who perhaps could never become starters a chance to step down a bit and have a year to play and perhaps earn a shot at the NFL.

Once again the NCAA is being hoist by its own petard. Everything the NCAA tries to espouse is that education matters. In this case the current rule is completely appropriate in that it rewards athletes that actually graduate on time, or even ahead of time, and have eligibility left (generally because of redshirting). Athletic programs are going to have to stop redshirting smart players or tell professors to start failing athletes to stop them from being able to graduate before their eligibility runs out.

There is a rumor circulating that Iesha Small is leaving from Baylor. If this turns out to be true, it should be official in a week or so.

Interesting . I wonder if South Carolina still has any interest ? I think it pretty much came down to Baylor and South Carolina when she was being recruited . The Baylor games I watched she hardly got to play .

It's already up on the first page of this thread that Ariana Freeman transferred from Louisville to Colorado. The article announcing the transfer also includes info on Colorado's Arielle Roberson. It looks like she will use her graduate year - the finalists include Purdue, West Virginia and... Louisville.

Ariana's parents seem very happy about the transfer, and are both CU graduates as well.
