Lady Vols coach Holly Warlick said Wednesday that guards Ariel Massengale and Andraya Carter would miss one game and forward Cierra Burdick and guard Jannah Tucker would miss two because they did ''not live up to our academic standards.''

Tucker's punishment won't take effect until she has fully recovered from a knee injury. The others will miss fourth-ranked Tennessee's Nov. 14 opener against Penn and the Nov. 17 game versus Oral Roberts. They also won't play in Sunday's exhibition game with Carson-Newman.

They skipped a class or two. Holly is continuing the policy Pat had about class attendance.

I say good for Coach Warlick.

It is a good rule to have and she's enforcing it. It would be easy for a coach to look the other way, especially with seniors.

These rules have been set in stone since forever. Pat Summitt put them there many years ago and Holly is just continuing the tradition. Why on earth these girls thought they could get away with breaking them...especially Burdick Rolling Eyes

Would Holly do this if they were playing Duke and Notre Dame?

Oh, I don't think the rules are dumb (they are good)....I think breaking them is dumb. Academic rules and standards should be fairly easy to upkeep. My comment was entirely about disappointment in the players for failing to abide by the academic standard; not at all about the coaching staff enforcing their rules. Wink I probably didn't make that as clear as I should have.

Yes. Without a second thought. Tennessee places the emphasis on the "student" part of "student-athlete".

Many other schools treat their players as if they are adults, not children.

Many other schools do not hold their athletes to as high a standard or expect them to serve as good examples at all times.

How much longer is Harrison out? Nia Moore looking really good.. If she keeps it up, who takes the decrease in minutes? Graves or Harrison?

Harrison may not play until a game that matters more. Burdick will be back for the next one, and a healthy Izzy is more important for ND and conference play. Hard telling about Moore, this is really unexpected!

Izzy and Nia are both centers, so Nia would be a backup to Izzy. Lucklily, she has turned into a more than adequate center so far...actually, pretty amazing. Holly has said she wants to run the offense through Izzy. With Nia playing so well, it would appear Holly wouldn't need to make too many adjustments when Izzy isn't on the floor.

UConn is in the "children-treating" category, as they don't let their players use twitter during the school year.
