Apparently, Arkansas has its coach, or at least that is the rumor; however, I don't know who it is. Arkansas AD Jeff Long does a really good job of keeping his hires quiet. The new football coach, Bret Bielema, wasn't mentioned once in the search until a few hours before announcement. According to internet rumors, the announcement could leak tomorrow or Monday when the athletes return from spring break.

This is the only public rumor I've heard.
"Mike Flynn ‏@MikeFlynn826 23h
Newest @ArkRazorbacks wbb rumor has @utmartin HC in the mix. Won lot of OVCs & Lieberman @hof award finalist."

A few others have been mentioned on an Arkansas ($$$) website, so I don't feel right releasing that list. Still, I honestly have little indication of who it could be.

This would be the perfect time for McMillan to jump, too. Both his stars are seniors, and I'm not sure how much they have coming in.

I would be okay with that hire. He's done a good job at UT Martin.

Another tweet:

Atticus Finch ‏@wbballhoopscoop 3m
Jody Adams has interviewed at Arkansas. Stay tuned.

FWIW, she was one of 6 or 7 names mentioned earlier this week on the Arkansas site.

Guess A.D. Long didn't get my tweet about Sytia Messer....
Razz Oh well
Whoever he gets needs to be a good motivator. I don't know if the new coach will keep the returning players or if they will have to audition for their spot on the team.

For real? I mean, I understand he played there in the '80's and all...and was a MBB asst coach at 6 different schools during a 15-20 year career, but this would be an off-the-wall hire. Course, so was VA Tech's hire a few years ago as well.

Excellent! A former men's assistant who has never coached women, never been a head coach at any level, and has been out of coaching for 20 years. Sounds like someone who is ready to take over a major conference team.

Wow. Check out his coaching timeline...I really think is a record for most number of teams in the least amount of time:

Assistant Coach - Years - Worked with…
University of Arkansas - 1984-85 - Eddie Sutton
Sacramento State - 1985-86 - Bill Brown
Appalachian State Univ - 1986-87 - Tom Apke
University of Kentucky - 1987-89 - Eddie Sutton
Univ of Arkansas-Little Rock - 1989-90 - Mike Newell
Oklahoma State University - 1990-91 - Eddie Sutton

He stayed 2 years at Kentucky...other than that, 1 year at each location. Who does that?!?!?

I don't get it. The WBCA really needs to step up it efforts for a real leadership development program. The annual week-long so you want to be a coach summer clinic isn't sufficient.

Fucking seriously?

If Monticello brought him in for a men's job with that resume, they'd be getting roasted- but it's perfectly acceptable to give him a BCS women's job?

What pisses me off is that they were bringing in the right people to interview, and then they do this. What in the actual fuck?

He's the least expensive option that gives the minimal appearance of them giving a shit.

So, does he get to coach for like 5 months and then return to the studio for 7 months?

I don't know what to think?

We were told last night it would be a "shocker", and they were correct.

Not sure what to think right now. Shocked

Some will say in his favor: he's definitely not a lesbian; though his last name may be problematic. Laughing

Add Arkansas to the list of schools that don't want to invest in women's basketball ...

For the record, we were also told it would be an expensive hire; although, I haven't heard the exact details.

If that was true, Arkansas would not be willing to pay Collen $500,000 to fire him.

I'm split on this. I like his ESPN work, but surprised that he got a BCS conference job being out of coaching so long. Figured he would have to go to Presbyterian or that type of school and work his way back up.

Also mildly surprised they didn't wait till Texas A & M was out, and pluck someone from Gary Blair's staff.
