I would think playing an exhibition game against Limestone College might be a good time to refer to players by their numbers rather than their names, so it's an appropriate opponent for Duke.

11/9 Tennessee vs. Carson-Newman (Online broadcast)

This is always kind of a fun game. C-N is a DII school up the road in Jefferson City, TN, with a very good football program and not much else athletically (but pretty decent academically) and the girls always seem to have fun together, even though it's invariably a major blowout. The C-N coach initially approached Pat with the idea, saying he'd like to give his girls a little taste of the big time, and it's continued ever since.

Also 11-9, JMU vs. Lenoir-Rhyne, another DII school from the same conference as Carson-Newman. Unfortunately I'll be returning from an out-of-town gig that day and won't be able to attend. It probably won't be the blowout of the above match but should be a nice cruise for JMU.

Nov. 2: UConn vs. West Chester, the alma mater of Geno Auriemma.

This game is streamed at College Sports Live at 12:30 pm ET.

http://www.uconnhuskies.com/collegesportslive/

If you fiddle around with this service, you can get the Winter Pass promotion of 25% off -- I had to log in with a browser private mode -- which results in a $7.50 per month charge to see UConn events and also those of about 100 other schools.

You have to have an SEC Network+ authorized provider to view this on WatchESPN . Time-Warner and DirectTV are not authorized .

I don't know what you can possibly learn from these games--other than which players on your team are healthy vs. which are nursing small injuries. Question

1. Can try out your offenses vs a team that doesn't know your plays.
2. Experiment with different lineups.
3. Work on defending a team that is running plays you aren't familiar with thus seeing how the team has learned what you want defensively.
4. A "trial run" of being in the uniform, pregame warm-ups, and all the other things that come with a real game (good for the freshmen).
5. Can work on how they execute something right out of a timeout in a game situation.
6. Game setting with actual officials, shot clock, fouls kept, etc

There are quite a few things that teams can do and learn with these "dry runs".

Well, if your team is in the AAC, these games can be the orgasmic season highlights.

Philadelphia University will be at Seton Hall on 11/9 (as will your intrepid blogger). Holy Family visits Fordham the same day.

The danger of these warmups is to be embarrassed like this...

That's interesting...last I knew, if 2 D-! schools were going to do an "exhibition", you weren't able to keep official stats like that. I'm curious as to where you would have gotten that as I don't think it's even on their website.

p_d has his methods. Very Happy Just because the school can't keep stats, doesn't mean an observer can't keep stats...

True...but observers weren't allowed to watch last I knew. That could have changed in the last couple of years but I don't remember hearing that.

Not to mention this:
Quote:
VS Basketball-Licensed to: University of Minnesota
was located on the bottom of the stat sheet, indicating an official Univ of Minnesota form.

I assume the rules have changed and I'm just not aware of them...no biggie. It just struck me as I know what the rules used to be in regards to these "scrimmages" between 2 Division-I teams in the preseason.

Schools were allowed to play exhibition games vs non-DI teams OR scrimmages vs DI teams...and among the rules were nobody could be attendance, no media, no official stats/score kept, etc.

Is this a real question?

DI = NCAA Division I
DII = NCAA Division II
DIII = NCAA Division III
NAIA = NAIA
