Maybe more surprising than an "official" box score of a scrimmage is Zahui didn't start and only played 15 minutes.

Stanford 105, Vanguard 50. Freshman Kaylee Johnson got the start, along with Erica McCall, Taylor Greenfield, Lili Thompson, and Amber Orrange. It was fun to see Stanford's new offensive style. Lots of fast breaks, lots of screen and roll.

So, is there anything we can take away from the fact that Stanford scored 25 more points against Vanguard this year than last year?

It probably doesn't make that much of a difference, but Vanguard was playing the 2nd half of a back-to-back today. That wasn't the case when Stanford faced Vanguard last year. Also, today's Vanguard team was without 4 of their 5 starters from last season (including their far-and-away leading scorer, Nicole Ballestero, who averaged 23ppg last season, and who put up 25 in last year's Stanford exhibition). This really is a completely different Vanguard team from last season.

None of that is to say that Stanford shouldn't be encouraged by today's performance... they absolutely should! Stanford played great, and is gonna have a great year! But you can't really compare apples-to-apples when you match up Vanguard '13 against Vanguard '14.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for--I noticed that Ballestero was gone, but still wondered because Vanguard was still ranked no. 3 among NAIA Teams.

Stanford only had 6 fast break points and the starters had only 4 assists, none by the forwards.
Roberson and Green had 10 assists. combined, not sure how much playtime those two will get, but its nice to see they shared the ball.

I watched South Carolina's 100-25 win over Coker . Coker had no one over 6 feet so South Carolina was able to score pretty easy inside . No one for the gamecocks played more than 19 minutes , with A'ja Wilson leading the scoring with 18 and Alaina Coates had 16 .
Starting lineup was the same as last year with the exception of Wilson starting at the 3 spot instead of last year's starter Asia Dozier . Dozier played well off the bench (much better than she was playing at the end of last season) , so it wouldn't surprise me to see Dawn start the same lineup vs Southern Cal in the opener .
Bianca Cuevas started out a little nervous , I thought , but settled down and played pretty good . Played some at PG and some at the off-guard . Most encouraging to me was that she was working hard on defense . Maybe not fundamentally sound just yet but the effort was there . I'm really looking forward to watching her develop .

Carson Newman @ North Carolina today 6:00pm.

It's the first game that Sylvia will coach since the 2012-2013 season after battling leukemia. It's the first game to see how will the team play without Diamond DeShields.

Yeah, I'm interested to see the non-Diamond look. Though talented, it looked like some pouty me-first behaviour last year to me. Maybe the team will be fine without that.

When a players says that the coach asked me how He can help you and your response is get me the ball, well I think we know why! Especially when she had a box on 1 with help, she should have been looking to get the open man a shot or dragging the D away from the play.

I left with about 12 minutes to go. I think ND was up like 80-18 or something. Hard to tell much with games like these, but things look pretty good!

This isnt the biggest upset in the world. Alaska Anchorange hosts a shootout each year vs D1 teams, around Thanksgiving. They have beaten some D1 teams in the shootout, including UC Riverside last year, N. Dakota State in 12/13 and they took Central Michigan to OT, before losing. Central Michigan has Crystal Bradford who figures to be a top WNBA draft pick. They play Yale this year and then play either Long Beach State or Boise State

The Alaska Anchorage season records are listed here.

Friday's exhibition at Williams Arena:

Minnesota 102, Concordia (St. Paul) 71

Box score

CSP is an excellent D-II team (not quite as good in basketball as volleyball, but that's an impossible standard!), advancing to the Elite Eight last spring and being ranked #10 in the WBCA's preseason poll...

Concordia? Those LOOtherns! Razz Laughing Laughing As a Concordia alum myself, I actually enjoy seeing these things. p_d, have you ever heard anything about Erika D. being an alum of Concordia, NY? I saw that recently somewhere, and was very surprised by that.
