yeah, I wondered about newk dropping Lang. She has done a pretty good job for someone not expected to contribute a whole lot. Will be interesting to see how they divy up minutes once Imani is back.

I was thinking she and Alwal were too much alike, and I wanted more rebounds. I may live to regret it! But I'll be so happy about my real life team that I won't mind too much.

I missed you! Whenever a schedule disappears I notice and anyway SOMEBODY has to bring up the bottom of the list. You might look at Dailey, E. Michigan too. She's barely played their last two games and was pretty bad. Good news: You got a monster game from your UT Martin girl today! (I know you need some encouragement after the MTSU game today)

Cappie, your Nichols girl DNP today. I think she's missed their last couple of games.

Weise shall shut down Gray, and then you can drop Gray for one of the more unfortunate fantasizers in the spirit of Christmas.

Question to Fantasizers/Powers that Be (i.e., Myrtle):

I have players like Nina Davis (Baylor) and Breanna Lewis (K-State) who are only designated as forwards on their rosters. But. I'd like to designate them as centers--at least some times--for my purposes here. Certainly, most of their scoring is done in the low post, if that's a relevant factor.

Is that an unacceptable conflagration of rules, or no biggie? Input, please.

Not exactly what happened, but we do have pretty high standards for our Miracles and missing 6 free throws at home is close to disqualification so keep tuned...if that happens again she will indeed be available to another unfortunate fantasizer.

ok, my thoughts.

To me, it makes the game just that much more interesting to have to try to balance your team between C, F, G, - and really with 3 U's you already get a lot of flexibility. Also note that if a team uses P to designate a player's position, they can be used as a C or F.

Nina Davis is just no way a center and doesn't play that position (It's clearly Agbuke on her team and actually they designate 3 P's and Davis is not one of them) so IF we maintain the current rules I couldn't agree to her being a C. Lewis on the other hand is the tallest player on her team and does play in the post, so that one I would be inclined to allow even though I don't follow that team enough to know if she is truly their C.

I'm curious though if others feel like the C,F,G designations add to or take away from the game as a whole. Or any other thoughts?

I favor the C position being a player listed as a center or post on their team roster. Three U positions give us LOTS of flexibility.

I mean, they add to the game, since I specifically recruit G-F players so that I can play them any day of the week.

I think that I'm surprised at how little I've had to worry about organizing an entire Roster on a given day--because there's been room for everyone.

Keeping it like this is best--because y'know, otherwise, I'd load up on Forwards, and have the best fg, rebounding, and I'd have one guard who can shoot lights out three to trump everyone there. Then I'd have low turnovers, because it's a forward, duh.

I think the restrictions are specifically designed to force us to utilize different positions.

Okay. The question arose for me because, for this particular day's games, Myrtle told me Davis couldn't be designated as a "c".

Howee wrote:
For Sun, 12-14:

g: N. Moody, IA-St

f: S. Campbell, OK
f: B. Lewis, K-St
c: N. Davis, Bay
u: A. Powers, MI-St
u: P. Little, OK
u: L. Thompson, Stan

Now, frankly, had I payed closer attention, I'd have given the "c" designation to Ms. Lewis, and "f" to Davis. I normally consider Davis a "f", too.
However.....

....is all debatable, if we must split hairs: Davis is a 4. Period. (In fact, I'm afraid she may not play beyond college if she doesn't get her #3 skills up there, as she's too tiny to be a 4 at the next level, but that's another thread.) She does all her scoring within 5 ft. of the basket. And by the way, Baylor actually has 4 "p" designations, none of which are Davis. But I think that's a matter of Davis being 5'11" when the other 4 "p"s are larger.

By the same token, Breanna Lewis at K-state is 6-5. But her website lists her as a "f". K-State doesn't use any "c" or "p" designations. Now, what if she scampered around, and scored all about the perimeter (a la A'ja Wilson at SC)? Could she still be designated as a "c"? Myrtle sez just cuz she's "big" she can be called a "c".

And then there's the whole "u" designation. I'm not against that, but it seems to undermine the whole "position" thing. Confuzzling.

"Add" what?? Confused

....and you'd bomb in the Assist dept.

I mean, there's no really hard and fast logic that demands either way, and I frankly doubt I'll even have to be concerned about it any other time this season. But as a newbie, I like to comprehend the logic behind rules, because if they don't enhance the experience, then....they detract from it.

well, I don't know what is going on with our girls, but 3-9 from the FT line is a cuttable offense so we must waive Ms. Coleman from Cleveland St. and sign Jama Sharp, G Stetson. All I want for Christmas is some decent shooting!

Fri lineup:
Knight, FGCU
Sharp, Stetson
Gray, UNC (and if you miss 6 again you are also toast)
U: Dietrick, Princeton
F: R-Smith, Seton Hall
F: Harden, Wichita

If you like puzzles or strategy games, then you may understand how they actually do add to the game. It's just one more element that you have to add to the overall equation which forces more balance and more strategy...instead of the bulldog, go straight at 'em, approach. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Personally I find it more interesting this way.

On another note, you do realize Little is still on your team? You haven't been mentioning her in your lineups. So far as I know you have:
N. Davis Baylor
T. Buss Indiana
N. Moody Iowa St.
B. Lewis Kansas St.
A. Powers Michigan St.
R. Theriot Nebraska
S. Campbell-Olds Oklahoma
P. Little Oklahoma
N. Kornet Oklahoma
J. Alleyne Oregon
B. Laney Rutgers
T. Mitchell South Carolina
L. Thompson Stanford

ok, my thoughts.

To me, it makes the game just that much more interesting to have to try to balance your team between C, F, G, - and really with 3 U's you already get a lot of flexibility. Also note that if a team uses P to designate a player's position, they can be used as a C or F.

Personally I like using the G, F, C designations. When I'm putting together my draft I enjoy looking at different positions and stats and see how different players match up with each other from the previous years. Typically I try to have at least 3 players with at C or F/C listing so it gives me some flexibility for my daily rosters.

Being a former post player, I have a special affinity for post players and I enjoy see how my post players do. Although I will admit sometimes I put together a team more of how I think the players will do on the court and work together as a real team, as opposed to a fantasy team, which is why I'm always on the lower end of the rankings, but I think it's still fun.

If all positions were scratched I don't think the game would be as fun, because then it would seem more like a free for all type of situation. There have been times when I couldn't fit a player or two into my line ups because all of those positions and the "U's" were taken up, but in the end I just had to make a decision, to me it wasn't a big deal, just part of the game, and sometimes it's fun going through the last couple games, and looking at their opponents to guess who I think will have the better game on a given day.

I *get* all that. I really do. And I'm not implying that those position designations be done away with, just....if you have a "need" to make a "f" into a "c" for one game (as any coach just might do), is that really such a difference maker??
