Quote:
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee center Mercedes Russell is expected to miss the entire 2014-15 season to give her time to recover from a history of foot problems.

"Mercedes has a history of orthopedic problems with her feet that our sports medicine staff is working to correct," Lady Vols coach Holly Warlick said Thursday in a university release. "Redshirting this season will allow her the opportunity to return to full health and still have three full years of eligibility with our program. We look forward to seeing Mercedes back in action next season

Sounds like another Kelley Cain, looks like her on the court too. Russell always played like her feet or legs hurt.

This could be good for the Lady Vols in the long run. If Russel comes back 100% healthy and is able to work on developing more this year, then for 2015-16 with her return and the addition of DD it could be a strong three years with the two of them.

Ouch. Better hope nothing happens to Izzy or Bash or we are in a world of hurt!

Not sure if it's exactly the case here, but it's unfortunate that some people are unable to get the proper health care in high school because of insurance, cost for a specialist, general doctors and physical therapist don't always know how to rehab/treat athletes to get back to high level activity, etc. and when they get into college problems arise and they have to miss time in their sport to recover, and sometimes it's so bad they have to end their career.

I wish her the best of luck in her rehab and recovery and she is able to get back to 100% and back on the court.
