I am waiting on Dr. Carol Dweck's book, "Mindset." This seems an interesting topic.

It was an okay article.
McCormick differentiates the Fixed Mindset, which can't adapt to failure, from the Growth Mindset, which can, and urges players and coaches to try to develop the latter.
I suggest there is a third alternative: the Realistic Mindset. Some players are never going to be good enough to be part of UConn's top rotation no matter how "growth" or "adaptive" oriented their mindsets. They should be realistic about their situations and decide whether they really want to just sit on the bench and pump iron at some remote state university, or go somewhere else and actually play basketball, perhaps closer to home.
I don't know why Samarie Walker transferred, but having interviewed her in some depth, I'm sure it wasn't because she was afraid to fail at UConn or couldn't adapt. I've always sensed there was something at Kentucky that interested her more than playing at UConn, where she was getting more time at the center position than fellow freshman Stefanie Dolson.
I think one of the most poignant reminiscences about the UConn experience were those articulated by Kristen Phillips. She was an incoming classmate of Tina Charles, Kaili McLaren, Meghan Gardler and Jaquie Fernandes from the high school class of 2006, and was the only player I ever remember who so frustrated Geno Auriemma that he actually refused to let her go on road trips with the team. Talk about "sending a message". |

That would make sense. It surely wasn't the "burned out on basketball" meme that was floated at the time. She seemed to be at Kentucky almost instantaneously after getting released. |

Are you implying some kind of tampering, or a personal "someone"
