Wow is right, I'm really interested to know why she is transferring. I'm sure we'll never know the whole story, but UNC was looking prime to make some noise the next 3 years and Coach Hatchell is supposed to be back.

Echoing everyone else's "wow" sentiment. No one saw this coming, I'm guessing.

I'm definitely looking forward to the where and why...

Wow, indeed.

My first thought was that it might be because Hatchell wasn't coming back, but I see from the article that Hatchell was really clear that she is. (And I'm happy that my first thought was wrong.)

Honestly, it's hard to think of a system that would be better for DeShields to highlight herself than UNC. I'll be really fascinated to see where she goes.

Prior to the great Cinco de Mayo coup, Diamond's other finalists were Tennessee, UConn, Duke and Maryland.

Personally, I think she'll go to Delaware.

I agree...my thought process as well. The style that Carolina plays is right up her alley. There has to be so much more to this story.

Uconn never takes transfers, ever...it would be a 911 sign of despiration if Geno started now.

Tennessee rarely does but it's possible.

I believe the ACC prohibits intraconfrence transfers, plus going from UNC to Duke would be a Nuclear Option.

That leaves the Terps or someone new (With Tenn as an outside shot)

As for why, its same as Kayla Davis and Pat I think. YES Hatchell will be behind the bench but going in knowing from one day to the next not knowing what may happen to your coach's life let alone ability to coach you is a heavy burden.

But this is a game changer, I had UNC taking Uconn's mantle, now it's back to same old Hatchell.

And Voepel just cut off her chat over this so this must be huge.

...for 2015 - 2016...remember the transfer year...unless something REALLY went haywire, she will sit next year.

I bet Holly would take her in a minute and the way she let Simmons run and gun, it would be a good fit, ha!

I hope she comes goes to Tennessee, but I have a feeling she'll want to be close to home for some reason!

Home is……….where? I've forgotten. I don't see her coming to Tennessee, although we do have one scholarship still open. I'm REALLY curious what's behind this, and as a prospective coach, I would question her commitment before I'd accept her.

One coach's desperation is another's occasional practice:

Brittany Hunter

Christine Rigby

Rashidat Sadiq

Rita Williams

Unless Staley revokes someone's scholarship, USC has 15 players on scholly after A'ja's signing. 16 players on roster in total. Not sure who is the walk-on or if someone is leaving. They currently have 11 freshmen, sophomores, and juniors and signed 5 players for next year. They only graduate one senior from this season's roster.

South Carolina currently has ten on scholarship and two walkons . Walkons are Leanna Morrison and India Farmer . They should still have a scholarship if they wanted to use it for a transfer . I think the question is would they have enough basketballs (lol) ?
