Lucky enough to be there tonight. Chiney epitomizes what the Wooden Award is about-she was the perfect choice.
With Tara honored as well, what a great night for Stanford.

I see it as three very different, highly skilled players, each playing very well, and each very worthy of serious consideration as a player of the year.

I think it's great. Each of them got an award, and each of them deserved one.

Considering that writers from across the country participate in the voting for the awards, I didn't think geography had that much influence.
The results are what we all thought they would be, divided amongst three great players. We are fortunate to have been a witness to it.

The Wade Trophy started in 1978
The Naismith Award started in 1983
The USBWA POY started in 1988
The AP POY started in 1995
The Wooden Award started in 2004

Cheryl Miller won both the available awards in 1985
Clarissa Davis won all three available awards in 1989
Jennifer Azzi won all three available awards in 1990
Rebecca Lobo won all four available awards in 1995
Sue Bird won all four available awards in 2002
Diana Taurasi won all four available awards in 2003
Seimone Augustus won all five available awards in 2005
Candace Parker won all five available awards in 2008
Maya Moore won all five available awards in 2009 and again in 2011
Brittney Griner won all five available awards in 2012 and again in 2013

So, five of the last six years there has been consensus

Actually, I'm pretty sure Candice Wiggins won the Wade trophy in 2008.

I remember her being so shocked that she beat Parker out---and she hadn't even prepared a speech.

Ice trumped Ace on that day in history.

I was just reading too fast, saw Cand... and made an assumption that the rest was ...ace Parker.

Not the first time Parker was snubbed. Lindsey Harding won the Naismith Award over her in 2007.

I don't think that it was a snub, Wiggins was coming off a HUGE tournament--she became the first player to score 40+ points in two separate games, and she went for 151 points in 6 games, fourth all time. To put that in perspective, Candice Wiggins scored more points than Maya Moore did in the 2010 season campaign for UConn.

Candice Wiggins (as of last year) also owns the career scoring average for NCAA Games (min. of 10 games to be included) with 22.9 ppg.

I understand that Tennessee won the Championship, but Candice Wiggins had a damn good tourney and a damn good career.

And the Wade is notoriously (to me) anti-Tennessee. If you look at past winners, Wiggins over Parker is not the only time an obvious choice Lady Vol lost this award while being the consensus POY elsewhere. For example, Ticha and Steph White beat Holdsclaw in '98 and '99. Edwina Brown, of all people, beat Catchings in 2000.
