Way off topic, but are Marquette folks happy or unhappy about Buzz Williams's departure? I understood he and the school administrtion had a falling out.

The fans are very unhappy. It is really an awful time for Marquette to have to do a big coaching search also as they have an interim President and interim Athletic Director. The rumor mill says they are close to hiring the new President and the AD will follow but the coaching hire will have to be made by the interim AD (who is Bill Cords who was the AD for many years at MU) before the other two key hires are made. I imagine it's hard to attract good candidates when they don't know who their boss will be.

In some says, it's a bit odd that Williams left for Va Tech. I do think the ACC is better than the Big East but the Va Tech program is in bad shape and from the sounds of it he will actually be making less money than he would have made at Marquette. But maybe he wanted the better conference and maybe it's a better situation for his family.

The Tom Crean departure was pretty ugly and Buzz Williams had said he would be here as long as Marquette would have him. So there are a lot of unhappy fans. It was an odd time for him to jump also in that he had his worst season at MU this past season. Some are joking that Crean will be fired at IU and could come back to MU - that would never happen of course...

They said "could never happen" about Bobby Petrino returning as FB coach at Louisville too. Just saying....

I ended up with 2 brackets somehow and the one I filled out isn't in the group. I guess that's what I get for doing this last minute and not double checking my group entry after I filled out the bracket. Oh well - I'm sure I would have been near the bottom of the standings anyway Smile.

Way too many bridges burned when Crean left - I don't think he would ever come back. Interim AD Bill Cords was retired when Crean left and it was another AD then but he is well aware of the situation. But it's a moot point right now as Crean is still the coach at IU and I highly doubt he would want to come back to Marquette anyway.
