Stanford might not have played that well, but Xavier makes you play ugly. And the Musketeers certainly normally shoot better than that themselves (and I'm not even mentioning the final seconds). A lot of you had shit all over Xavier all year and I think they're a pretty stout team.

I sure hope Amber Harris comes back next year. This is a hard one to swallow.

I wish the refs had let them play more; I would have liked to have seen more of both Phillips and Appel on the court. And I still think the officiating was out of line with the other games in the tournament in terms of what was called. Stanford didn't have a good game; the offense struggles if Appel is on the bench or the three point shots aren't falling, and when both happen, it's pretty ugly. At the end, though, they made the play, and they're going to the Final Four. You can't expect to get there on reputation.

What kind of recruits does Xavier have coming in next season? They are really playing with the Purdue recruits who couldn't go to Purdue due to the Merriweather/Curry mess. I don't know how good of a recruiter McGuff is, but I guess time will tell if they can make another run.

On the other hand, if these kids were playing for Purdue... then OSU wouldn't be winning the Big 10.

Very tough loss for X and incredible win for S.........

If Harris does come out, Appel could slip all the way to Washington.

Not based on how the games played out in my opinion. Both teams that lost choked.

That's because two teams played composed all the way down to the final buzzer while the other two teams lost their cool. The composed teams moved on while the misguided teams are headed home.

Jernignan sure isnt gonna sleep tonight.

I'm thnking that Muffett isn't going to get any sleep tonight either!!!!! Wink

Jernigan was on that Rutgers team that advanced when Lindsey Harding couldn't convert from the FT line. Now she knows how that feels from both sides.

Second off - it feels damn good to be on this side of a play like this. Miserable for Xavier, who has some serious talent, but I am a Stanford fan, and we are in our third consecutive Final Four, and it feels so good!

the basketball gods owed me after lauren lueders and jence rhoads missed open looks in the final seconds to give vandy a win over xavier two games ago!

He started off by quoting her re playing against bigger players as opposed to undersized ones. She claims that playing against smaller players is the "worst thing in the world". Then, he said something to the effect of:

"Uh no, Jayne. The worst thing would be missing shots, dribbling the ball off your foot, and scoring four points in the first half of a key game against opponents your size."

A little over the top, but he's probably still steamed that UNC got bounced in the first round. "Dat ain't cool, dawg".

So instead of talking about Pohlen's great final minute, Pedersen's ability to keep Stanford in the game, or Harris's potential to disrupt the WNBA mock drafts, Scott decides to berate Appel.

Tool.

If I were Xavier, I wouldn't have played full court defense. I would have had my players back.

And ditto, on the player that missed the lay-ups. I couldn't tell, but it looked like she had a bad position on that second shot. Like she should have stepped back a step.

XAVIER is really good. No one is going to give Uconn a game. or maybe they will Smile

How weird. I was just thinking about that Harding let-down from that FF game in '07. I had no idea Jernigan was on that team.

Pohlen's lay-up did land the #1 spot on SC's Top 10 plays. Smile

Wouldve been nice to see what the game wouldve been like if the players had played, not the officials.

Yeah, really. I didn't see any HUGE reffing gaffes, but it sure as hell seemed like a lotta dorky little things. NOT a pretty game, overall.

I've got Stanford going all the way in my bracket, but I tell ya what...if Jayney dearest doesn't start demonstrating her Senior Moments SOON, ferget about it! She seems to have lost her ability to finish well. Yeah, Harris and Phillips had something to do with that tonight, but I don't recall any of the Old Brilliance in the whole tournament when challenged.

yes. IMO she's our best shooter.

really? i haven't seen her play enough minutes to form that sort of opinion about her shooting abilities. but to say that she's the team's best shooter is going some when you have pederson and nneka. i hope you're right cuz she'll probably get lots more minutes next year.

I'm thinking more mid-range shots and beyond. Nneka is definitely the best offensive threat, but I think of her doing her work around the basket. Same with Kayla - she can certainly knock down the jumper, but she's been a little inconsistent.

Running a full court defense with 4 seconds left is a really dubious decision. Pressing a ballhandler with one or two defenders - fine. Full-court man-to-man press? Dodgy.

Coach Tara said as much in the post game press conference. Stanford coaches had gone to school on the Notre Dame play, so were ready for this situation.

As many have said, the refs played a big part in making this game ugly.

This was a lucky/unlucky one, depending on which team you view it from.

On the LA broadcast, neither Stan Verrett nor Neil Everett gave Appel a hard time. Stuart Scott is definitely a douche.
