Pitt announced on Friday that sophomore center Pepper Wilson and sophomore guard Sarah Ogoke have left the program.

The news comes within the same week that sophomore forward Kate Popovec asked for and was given a release from her scholarship, and assistant Jeff Williams left to become head coach at La Salle University in Philadelphia.

Beranato better have a good frosh class up her sleeve or she is GONE next season if not sooner...It has been noted more than once that since Maggie's death Jamie Dixon will NOT tolerate a substandard women's program. Angus had a great start but she has crashed and now she's lost her entire class...eek...not looking good, Not with her recruiter bolting and McConnell Serio hanging around at Duquenese. I'm calling it early on the 2010-2011 hot seat list.

holyfreakingmoley! wonder where pepper is thinking of going? she needs to get her legs under control and a year off of competition may be the best thing for her. best of luck to both her and agnus.

A stunner! Don't recall this happening before in either the Men's or Women's game. What the Hell is going on there? Shocked

The Indiana men had a lot of players bail a couple of years ago following the Kelvin Sampson NCAA violations. His replacement, Tom Crean, only had two or three returning players.

Similar at Purdue when Dunn was out and Fortner in. Not sure of the numbers, but Purdue started a walkon, Corissa Yasen.

The difference is that IU and Purdue were after coaching changes, not players that committed to a coach and then a year later, bailed on that coach - for whatever reason.

but that was due to a near death penalty case...there have been no documented incidents of NCAA violations or abuse...yet (Would be shocked at the who but not at the what if anything came out given the pattern of players leaving) This is just out of the blue with nothing but a subpar season to explain it (that we know)

Agnus had turned around that program with back-to-back Sweet 16s. They have a nice freshmen guard coming in out of Florida for next year, and the last time they had a kid from Florida, well...she was Shevonte Zellous.

Hope she can turn things around. Wilson and Popovec are big losses for them.

Agnus has her top 6 scorers returning (granted, they are all seniors). Hopefully her run last year will start to pay recruiting dividends.

So is Berenato hard to get along with? Does she treat people badly?

Or is it the school? Does it not treat female athletes well?

This more than just coincidence.

I sadly have to think Angus is the issue. I only base this on family ties so please if a GT poster or Pitt poster has insight on Angus please share. But Jamie Dixon given some of the comments after Maggie's death I do not think would permit an incompitently run Women's athletics department.

Minnesota had five players leave at the same time in 2006, although that group was comprised of two juniors and three sophomores...

Isn't Dixon the men's basketball coach? Because unless he's atheltic director, what say does he have regarding the women's basketball program?

A successful coach of a school's glamour program can have a lot of influence behind the scenes. It's usually more prevalent with football coaches, but it's not unheard of for basketball, especially in a conference like the Big East, which was founded as a hoops conference. And Jamie Dixon remains a big supporter of the women's game.

Jamie Dixon has not been that successful. His teams always play crappy non-conference schedules and lose in the Sweet 16. Last year, they squeaked through to the Elite 8 and lost to a Villanova team they should have beaten.

Dixon is a good coach. But it's not like he's Coach K, who has won three national titles and doesn't throw his weight around the Duke Athletic Department to that extent.

AB has turned that program around so fast it's mind-blowing... to consider her on the hot seat seems a disservice to her and all that she's done.

I've seen nothing from AB that she treats anyone with anything less than class... I would like to know what's going on -- serious coaching turnovers the last two years -- hard to recover. We've seen other programs suffer when coaches leave..
