I would say "SEC are the queens" is a bit strong a term. Laughing

They've been a solid leader for a long time, but the Big 12 is the conference top to bottom right now to beat IMO, and as pilight said, the Big East still has more championship teams. The SEC still is Tennessee and the rest of them, while the Big East has UConn and Notre Dame. Let's not forget the Big East had BOTH championship teams last year.

Who has more POY winners in the last decade or so?

The SEC had the most recent 2x Wade Trophy winner and a back-to-back champion. The aforementioned player did not play for that back-to-back championship team.

The SEC has 8 championship teams all from 1 school, the Big East has 7 championship teams split up by 2 schools.

Here is the break down of Final Four Appearances from 2003-2009. The Big East has 6 split up among 3 schools, the SEC has 10 split up by 2 schools, so it could go either way, you could say SEC is stronger because they have more appearances, or the Big East is stronger because they've had more schools advance.

What if we judge by the pinnacle of the sport?

NCAA Final Fours: Auburn has 3 appearances, Georgia has 6, Tennessee has 97, LSU has 5.

Alabama, Arkansas and Vanderbilt have all been in the 90s.

Florida under Ross, Ole Miss under Chancellor were considered great programs nationally long before Notre Dame and Connecticut were winning championships.

I say 'queens' just because the SEC has ruled the roost going back to the 80s - the first modern BCS conference to really invest in women's hoops.

For me, this season proves that overall dominance in the sport. No one has really passed the SEC by - yet - in terms of post-season success.

Yes, the Big East gets props for two national champions (Georgia, Auburn have lost national championships to Tennessee, mind you) but the Big East has always had a lousy national cellar dweller like Seton Hall or Providence.

They're still far ahead of the BEast. UConn and the weak sisters are now 1-5 against other BCS teams in the tournament.

I did...and that did give the SEC one team in the final 8...same as the the Big East. Care to wager on who goes farther?
