The Cardinal (33-3) believe they should have been the No. 1 seed out West. Maryland (33-3) sees itself as the unappreciated, undervalued No. 1 seed everyone expects to falter.

Either way, tone of them heads to Tampa and a matchup with either Connecticut or Rutgers in the national semifinals.

This is a game that everybody has been waiting for since selection Monday, Maryland guard Kristi Toliver said. You saw the split screen, and you saw us happy Now its the showdown. Its the game everyone wants to see.

Should be a great game. For Stanford, it's the exact opposite of the Pittsburgh game matchup-wise: Maryland has far more athletic post players but slower guards.

The Wiggins-Coleman matchup will be very intriguing.

Appel & Co. will need to play their best game since the Tennessee win in December. Staying out of foul trouble will be a challenge against Langhorne & Harper.

For Maryland, Tolliver will have to play as smart as she did against Vanderbilt.

Stanford may have an edge in depth, but Maryland's big guns have an edge in big game experience over Stanford's big guns (aside from Wiggins, of course).

Stanford..Candice is gonna bounce back, and kill 'em. Does Stanford have anyone to pressure the ball when Toliver's bringing it up the court...if so, I'd do that all night..

I really love Spokane as a site for the NCAAs - with no team nearby, they're pulling in 7,000 fans. Pretty darn good.

Think what will happen when WSU blows up and all of eastern Washington gets on the June wagon.

Anyway, big game tonight for Stanford - good luck to you all (and to Hoopfan and other Cardinal fans)

Spokane is proving neutral sites can be OK.

I'm picking Maryland (ducking from hoopfan24's "spitball" attack). I really like both teams & this should be a great game.

It wouldn't feel like an upset to me when everyone (including us) figured we were the #2.

In any case, as I'm picking Maryland, much to everyone's surprise. Razz

I agree, it's a good location and nice support from fans. Thanks for the well wishes, off to a move to relax (after working out), then to hotel to send the team off.

Go Card!

I have Stanford in my bracket so I guess I am pulling for them. I'm staying on the Wiggins bandwagon in case the planets align and we do end up with her in NY this summer. I want to be able to say I've been a fan for a while. Wink

I also have Stanford in my bracket and they have always been one of my favorite teams outside of the Gophers. Since Wiggins will actually be in MN this summer Wink , it also makes sense to continue to root for her and her team.

But it's always tough to pick against a talented and dangerous team like Maryland.

More than anything, I am hoping for a well played game from both sides.

More than that, no Rutgers-Tennessee officiating controversies or game-turning injuries. Whoever wins tonight should have won it fair and square, and whoever loses it shouldn't feel like they got screwed by the basketball gods, refs or both.

I can safely say Im rooting for Stanford to win it all now...

Love Wiggys game, Appel is great, and they play great halfcourt defense...

Im also rooting for Tara, even if she doesnt like to smile or wear ANY makeup Razz

Maryland is tough, and they have ALOT of attitude...which rattles some of their opponents Twisted Evil

Hopefully the Cardinal can give it right back to them, and win a tough game, 73-70. Smile

Sorry everyone-- especially Hoopfan-- I'm going with Maryland on this one. Of course, it really does depend on which MD team comes to play. If it's the motivated one, I don't think there are many frontcourts in the country that can defend and score like Coleman/Harper/Langhorne. If it's the team that showed up last season-- and a few times this season-- then Stanford can whip them because Stanford has a great inside/outside tandem. But I'll stick with MD and watch with interest.

I'll take Stanford. Methinks they're a team on a mission, and I wouldn't want to piss off a team on a mission with a frontcourt like Stanford's.

I don't know why, but this has been preying on my mind all day today. I really don't want there to be an asterisky win, and since I'm assuming this is going to be a close game, the odds increase that something like that could happen.

I'm probably going to develop a stomach ulcer before this is all over. Someone needs to tell my nerves that me gnawing my nails doesn't have any affect whatsoever on Maryland winning.
